The beam loading effect results in a gradient reduction of accelerating structures due to the excitation of the fundamental mode when the beam travels through the cavity. A recent implementation of this process in the tracking code RF-Track allows the simulation of realistic scenarios, thus revealing the impact of this phenomenon in start-to-end accelerator designs. The need to achieve high energies in particle accelerators is leading to the development of new accelerator technologies, resulting in higher beam intensities and more compact devices with stronger accelerating fields. In such scenarios, Beam Loading effects occur and a intensitydependent gradient reduction affects the accelerated beam as a consequence of its interaction with the surrounding cavity. [...]

The tracking code RF-Track has been updated to include a large set of single-particle and collective effects: beam loading in standing and travelling wave structures, coherent and incoherent synchrotron radiation, intra-beam scattering, multiple Coulomb scattering in materials, and particle lifetime. This new set of effects was focused on the simulation of high-intensity machines such as linacs for medical applications. [...]

Medical and industrial electron linacs can benefit from the X-band accelerating technology developed for the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) at CERN. However, when high-intensity beams are injected in such high-gradient structures (>35 MV/m), the beam loading effect must be considered by design since this beam-cavity interaction can result in a considerable gradient reduction with respect to the unloaded case.
