3D Carbon/Carbon composites for beam intercepting devices at CERN / Nuiry, François-Xavier (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Bergeret, Maxime (CERN) ; Pianese, Stefano (CERN) ; Butcher, Mark (CERN) ; Grec, Lucian-Mircea (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Frankl, Matthias Immanuel (CERN) ; Maciariello, Fausto Lorenzo (ASML, San Diego) ; Pichon, Thierry (Ariane Group, Saint-Medard-en-Jalles)
3D Carbon/Carbon (3D CC) is a well‐known industrial composite material for high‐temperature applications. One of its main advantages resides in its ability to maintain good material characteristics at elevated temperatures (higher than 2700°C), which makes it potentially interesting for beam interaction applications where high strength at high temperature is required. Design and Prototyping of New CERN Collimators in the Framework of the LHC Injector Upgrade (LIU) Project and the High-Luminosity (HL-LHC) Project / Nuiry, Francois-Xavier (CERN) ; Aberle, Oliver (CERN) ; Bergeret, Maxime (CERN) ; Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Dallocchio, Alessandro (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) et al.
In the framework of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Injectors Upgrade (LIU) and the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) Projects at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research, in Geneva, Switzerland), collimators in the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) to LHC transfer lines as well as ring collimators in the LHC will undergo important upgrades in the forthcoming years, mainly focused during the Long Shutdown 2 foreseen during 2019-2020. This contribution will detail the current design of the TCDIL collimators with a particular emphasis on the engineering developments performed on the collimator jaws, aiming at getting a stringent flatness while consid-ering also the integration of thermal shock resistant materials. The Hiradmat 27 Experiment: Exploring High-Density Materials Response at Extreme Conditions for Antiproton Production / Torregrosa, Claudio (CERN ; Valencia, Polytechnic U.) ; Bergeret, Maxime (CERN) ; Berthomé, Emmanuel (CERN) ; Butcher, Mark (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Horvath, David (CERN) ; Humbert, Jerome (CERN) ; Perillo-Marcone, Antonio (CERN) ; Vorraro, Giovanni (CERN)
The HRMT27-Rodtarg- experiment used the HiRadMat facility at CERN to impact intense 440 GeV proton beams onto thin rods -8 mm diameter, 140 length- made of high-density materials such as Ir, W, Ta, Mo among others. The purpose of the experiment has been to reduce uncertainties on the CERN antiproton target material response and assess the material selection for its future redesign. [...]
