On Determining $\alpha_s(m_Z)$ from Dijets in $e^+e^-$ Thrust
/ Benitez, Miguel A. (Salamanca U., IUFFyM) ; Hoang, Andre H. (Vienna U.) ; Mateu, Vicent (Salamanca U., IUFFyM) ; Stewart, Iain W. (Vienna U. ; MIT) ; Vita, Gherardo (CERN)
We update a previous N$^3$LL$^\prime$+${\cal O}(\alpha_s^3)$ determination of the strong coupling from a global fit to thrust data by including newly available perturbative ingredients, upgrading the renormalization scales to include a fully canonical scaling region, and implementing the log resummation in a way which ensures the integrated cross section is unaffected by the the leading $1/Q$ hadronization power corrections. 50 Years of Quantum Chromodynamics
/ Gross, Franz (Jefferson Lab ; William-Mary Coll.) ; Klempt, Eberhard (Bonn U., HISKP) ; Brodsky, Stanley J. (SLAC) ; Buras, Andrzej J. (TUM-IAS, Munich) ; Burkert, Volker D. (Carnegie Mellon U.) ; Orginos, Kostas (Jefferson Lab ; William-Mary Coll.) ; Strickland, Michael (Kent State U.) et al.
This paper presents a comprehensive review of both the theory and experimental successes of Quantum Chromodynamics, starting with its emergence as a well defined theory in 1972-73 and following developments and results up to the present day. Topics include a review of the earliest theoretical and experimental foundations; the fundamental constants of QCD; an introductory discussion of lattice QCD, the only known method for obtaining exact predictions from QCD; methods for approximating QCD, with special focus on effective field theories; QCD under extreme conditions; measurements and predictions of meson and baryon states; a special discussion of the structure of the nucleon; techniques for study of QCD at high energy, including treatment of jets and showers; measurements at colliders; weak decays and quark mixing; and a section on the future, which discusses new experimental facilities or upgrades currently funded. Precise QCD Description of the Higgs Boson Transverse Momentum Spectrum
/ Chen, Xuan (U. Zurich (main)) ; Gehrmann, Thomas (U. Zurich (main)) ; Glover, E.W. Nigel (Durham U.) ; Huss, Alexander (CERN) ; Li, Ye (Fermilab) ; Neill, Duff (Los Alamos) ; Schulze, Markus (Humboldt U., Berlin) ; Stewart, Iain W. (MIT, Cambridge, CTP) ; Zhu, Hua Xing (Zhejiang U.)
The transverse momentum ($p_T$) distribution of Higgs bosons at hadron colliders enables a detailed probe of its production dynamics and is a key ingredient to precision studies of Higgs boson properties, but receives very large QCD corrections. We obtain a precision prediction for the $p_T$ spectrum by matching second-order (NNLO) QCD corrections at large $p_T$ with resummation of third-order logarithmic (N$^3$LL) corrections at small $p_T$. /SM and NLO MULTILEG Working Group
The 2011 Les Houches workshop was the first to confront LHC data. In the two years since the previous workshop there have been significant advances in both soft and hard QCD, particularly in the areas of multi-leg NLO calculations, the inclusion of those NLO calculations into parton shower Monte Carlos, and the tuning of the non-perturbative parameters of those Monte Carlos.
