First observation and study of the K±→π0π0μ±ν decay
/ NA48/2 Collaboration
The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the K±→π0π0μ±ν decay based on a sample of 2437 candidates with 15% background contamination collected in 2003-2004. The decay branching ratio in the kinematic region of the squared dilepton mass above 0.03~GeV2/c4 is measured to be (0.65±0.03)×10−6. [...]

GEM detector performance with innovative micro-TPC readout in high magnetic field
/ Garzia, I (INFN, Ferrara ; Ferrara U.) ; Alexeev, M (INFN, Turin) ; Amoroso, A (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) ; Baldini Ferroli, R (Frascati ; Beijing, Inst. Gas detector development is one of the pillars of the research in fundamental physics. Since several years, a new concept of detectors, called Micro Pattern Gas Detector (MPGD), allowed to overcome several problems related to other types of commonly used detectors, like drift chamber and micro strips detectors, reducing the rate of discharges and providing better radiation tolerance. A new detector exploiting the technology of Gas Electron Multipliers is under construction to replace the innermost drift chamber of BESIII experiment, since its efficiency is compromised owing the high luminosity of Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The new inner tracker with a cylindrical shape will deploy several new features. [...]

First observation and study of the K^{\pm} \to \pi^{\pm} \pi^{0} e^{+} e^{-} decay
/ NA48/2 Collaboration
The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the K^\pm \to \pi^\pm \pi^0 e^+ e^- decay from an exposure of 1.7 \times 10^{11} charged kaon decays recorded in 2003-2004. A sample of 4919 candidates with 4.9% background contamination allows the determination of the branching ratio in the full kinematic region, BR(K^\pm \to \pi^\pm \pi^0 e^+ e^-)=(4.24 \pm 0.14)\times10^{-6}. Gas detector are very light instrument used in high energy physics to measure the particle properties: position and momentum. Through high electric field is possible to use the Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) technology to detect the charged particles and to exploit their properties to construct a large area detector, such as the new IT for BESIII. (Frascati ; INFN, Rome) et al.
The Cylindrical GEM-Inner Tracker (CGEM-IT) is the upgrade of the internal tracking system of the BESIII experiment. It consists of three layers of cylindrically-shaped triple GEMs, with important innovations with respect to the existing GEM detectors, in order to achieve the best performance with the lowest material budget. Performance of triple GEM prototypes has been evaluated by means of a muon beam at the H4 line of the SPS test area at CERN. The data from two planar prototypes have been reconstructed and analyzed offline with two clusterization methods: the enter of gravity of the charge distribution and the micro Time Projection Chamber (\muTPC).
