The System for Measuring Overlap with Gas (SMOG2) at the LHCb detector enables the study of fixed-target ion-ion collisions at relativistic energies ($\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}\sim100$ GeV in the centre-of-mass). [...]

Whether or not femto-scale droplets of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) are formed in so-called small systems at high-energy colliders is a pressing question in the phenomenology of the strong interaction. [...]

Evidence for exotic hadron contributions to $\Lambda_b^0 \to J/\psi p \pi^-$ decays
/ LHCb collaboration
A full amplitude analysis of $\Lambda_b^0 \to J/\psi p \pi^-$ decays is performed with a data sample acquired with the LHCb detector from 7 and 8 TeV $pp$ collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$. A significantly better description of the data is achieved when, in addition to the previously observed nucleon excitations $N\to p\pi^-$, either the $P_c(4380)^+$ and $P_c(4450)^+\to J/\psi p$ states, previously observed in $\Lambda_b^0 \to J/\psi p K^-$ decays, or the $Z_c(4200)^-\to J/\psi \pi^-$ state, previously reported in $B^0 \to J/\psi K^+ \pi^-$ decays, or all three, are included in the amplitude models. Measurement of the $CP$ asymmetry in $B^0_s -\overline B {^0 _s}$ mixing
/ LHCb Collaboration
The $CP$ asymmetry in the mixing of $B_s^0$ and $\overline{B}{}_s^0$ mesons is measured in proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb$^{-1}$, recorded by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. Semileptonic $B_s^0$ and $\overline{B}{}_s^0$ decays are studied in the inclusive mode $D_s^{\mp} \mu^{\pm} {^(}\overline {\nu} {^)} _{\mu} X$ with the $D_s^{\mp}$ mesons reconstructed in the $K^+ K^- \pi^{\mp}$ final state. Measurement of the CKM angle $\gamma$ using $B^0 \rightarrow D K^{*0}$ with $D \rightarrow K^0_S \pi^+ \pi^-$ decays
/ LHCb collaboration
A model-dependent amplitude analysis of the decay $B^0\rightarrow D(K^0_S\pi^+\pi^-) K^{*0}$ is performed using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0fb$^{-1}$, recorded at $\sqrt{s}=7$ and $8 TeV$ by the LHCb experiment. The CP violation observables $x_{\pm}$ and $y_{\pm}$, sensitive to the CKM angle $\gamma$, are measured to be \begin{eqnarray*} x_- &=& -0.15 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.01, \\y_- &=& 0.25 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.01, \\x_+ &=& 0.05 \pm 0.24 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.01, \\y_+ &=& -0.65^{+0.24}_{-0.23} \pm 0.08 \pm 0.01, \end{eqnarray*} where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic and the third arise from the uncertainty on the $D\rightarrow K^0_S \pi^+\pi^-$ amplitude model. Model-independent evidence for $J/\psi p$ contributions to $\Lambda_b^0\to J/\psi p K^-$ decays
/ LHCb collaboration
The data sample of $\Lambda_b^0\to J/\psi p K^-$ decays acquired with the LHCb detector from 7 and 8~TeV $pp$ collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$, is inspected for the presence of $J/\psi p$ or $J/\psi K^-$ contributions with minimal assumptions about $K^- p$ contributions. It is demonstrated at more than 9 standard deviations that $\Lambda_b^0\to J/\psi p K^-$ decays cannot be described with $K^- p$ contributions alone, and that $J/\psi p$ contributions play a dominant role in this incompatibility. Measurement of the properties of the $\Xi_b^{*0}$ baryon
/ LHCb Collaboration
We perform a search for near-threshold $\Xi_b^0$ resonances decaying to $\Xi_b^- \pi^+$ in a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment. We observe one resonant state, with the following properties: \begin{eqnarray*} m(\Xi_b^{*0}) - m(\Xi_b^-) - m(\pi^+) &=& 15.727 \pm 0.068 \, (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.023 \, (\mathrm{syst}) \, \mathrm{MeV}/c^2, \\ \Gamma(\Xi_b^{*0}) &=& 0.90 \pm 0.16 \, (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.08 \, (\mathrm{syst}) \, \mathrm{MeV} [...]
