Large Shape Staggering in Neutron-Deficient Bi Isotopes / Barzakh, A (St. Petersburg, INP) ; Andreyev, A N (JAEA, Ibaraki ; York U., England) ; Raison, C (York U., England) ; Cubiss, J G (York U., England) ; Van Duppen, P (Leuven U.) ; Péru, S (CEA DAM) ; Hilaire, S (CEA DAM) ; Goriely, S (Brussels U., IAA) ; Andel, B (Comenius U.) ; Antalic, S (Comenius U.) et al.
The changes in the mean-square charge radius (relative to $^{209}$Bi), magnetic dipole, and electric quadrupole moments of $^{187,188,189,191}$Bi were measured using the in-source resonance-ionization spectroscopy technique at ISOLDE (CERN). A large staggering in radii was found in $^{187,188,189}$Big, manifested by a sharp radius increase for the ground state of $^{188}$Bi relative to the neighboring $^{187,189}$Big. [...]

Optical excitation of ultra-relativistic partially stripped ions / Bieroń, Jacek (Jagiellonian U.) ; Krasny, Mieczyslaw Witold (Paris U., VI-VII ; CERN) ; Placzek, Wieslaw (Jagiellonian U.) ; Pustelny, Szymon (Jagiellonian U.)
The Gamma Factory (GF) initiative aims at the construction of a unique experimental tool exploiting resonant interaction of light with ultra-relativistic partially stripped ions (PSI) stored in circular accelerators at CERN. Resonant excitation of high-energy electronic transitions in the ions is achieved through Doppler-boosting (by twice the Lorentz factor; from hundred to several thousand times) of light energy. [...]

The Gamma Factory Project at CERN: a New Generation of Research Tools Made of Light / Gamma Factory Working Group Collaboration
The Gamma Factory project offers the possibility of creating novel re- search tools by producing relativistic beams of highly ionised atoms in CERN’s accelerator complex and exciting their atomic degrees of freedom by lasers to produce strongly collimated high-energy photon beams. Inten- sity of such beams would exceed by several orders of magnitude the ones offered by the presently operating light sources, in the particularly interest- ing energy domain from about 100 keV to above 400 MeV. The Gamma Factory (GF) initiative proposes to use partially stripped ion (PSI) beams as drivers of a new type of high-intensity and high-energy (0.1–400 MeV) photon source. As part of the ongoing Physics Beyond Collider studies, initial beam tests were carried out in 2017 and 2018 at the SPS and LHC with partially stripped xenon and lead beams [...]

Tin is the chemical element with the largest number of stable isotopes. Its complete proton shell, comparable with the closed electron shells in the chemically inert noble gases, is not a mere precursor to extended stability; since the protons carry the nuclear charge, their spatial arrangement also drives the nuclear electromagnetism [...]

The Gamma Factory (GF) initiative proposes to create novel research tools at CERN by producing, accelerating and storing highly relativistic partially stripped ion beams in the LHC rings and by exciting their atomic degrees of freedom by lasers, to produce high-energy photon beams. Their intensity would be several orders of magnitude higher than those of the presently operating light sources in the particularly interesting gamma-ray energy domain reaching up to 400 MeV. [...]

Inverse odd-even staggering in nuclear charge radii and possible octupole collectivity in $^{217,218,219}\mathrm{At}$ revealed by in-source laser spectroscopy / Barzakh, A E (St. Petersburg, INP) ; Cubiss, J G (York U., England) ; Andreyev, A N (York U., England ; JAEA, Ibaraki ; CERN) ; Seliverstov, M D (St. Petersburg, INP ; York U., England) ; Andel, B (Comenius U.) ; Antalic, S (Comenius U.) ; Ascher, P (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Atanasov, D (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Beck, D (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Bieroń, J (Jagiellonian U.) et al.
Hyperfine-structure parameters and isotope shifts for the 795-nm atomic transitions in $^{217,218,219}$At have been measured at CERN-ISOLDE, using the in-source resonance-ionization spectroscopy technique. Magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments, and changes in the nuclear mean-square charge radii, have been deduced. [...]

Nuclear charge radii of $^{62−80}$Zn and their dependence on cross-shell proton excitations / Xie, L (Manchester U.) ; Yang, X F (Peking U., SKLNPT ; Leuven U.) ; Wraith, C (Liverpool U.) ; Babcock, C (Liverpool U.) ; Bieroń, J (Jagiellonian U.) ; Billowes, J (Manchester U.) ; Bissell, M L (Manchester U. ; Leuven U.) ; Blaum, K (Heidelberg, Max Planck Inst.) ; Cheal, B (Liverpool U.) ; Filippin, L (U. Brussels (main)) et al.
Nuclear charge radii of $^{62−80}$Zn have been determined using collinear laser spectroscopy of bunched ion beams at CERN-ISOLDE. The subtle variations of observed charge radii, both within one isotope and along the full range of neutron numbers, are found to be well described in terms of the proton excitations across the $Z=28$ shell gap, as predicted by large-scale shell model calculations. Hyperfine-structure parameters and isotope shifts of At195–211 have been measured for the first time at CERN-ISOLDE, using the in-source resonance-ionization spectroscopy method. The hyperfine structures of isotopes were recorded using a triad of experimental techniques for monitoring the photo-ion current. [...]
