/ Yammine, Samer (CERN) ; Antoine, Alain (CERN) ; Onufrena, Aleksandra (CERN) ; Perin, Antonio (CERN) ; Panev, Bozhidar Ivanov (CERN) ; Bozzini, Davide (CERN) ; Coulot, Emilien (CERN) ; Thiesen, Hugues (CERN) ; Zerlauth, Markus (CERN) ; Bajko, Marta (CERN) et al.
The goal of the High Luminosity-Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) Inner Triplet (IT) String test, is to validate the assembly and connection procedures and tools required for its construction, to assess the collective behavior of the superconducting magnet chain in conditions as close as possible to those of their operation in the HL-LHC and to provide a training opportunity for the equipment teams for their work in the LHC tunnel. The IT String includes the systems required for operation at nominal conditions, such as the cryogenics, powering and quench protection systems. [...]

Chapter 14: Cryogenics for the HL-LHC
/ Claudet, S (CERN) ; Ferlin, G (CERN) ; Monneret, E (CERN) ; Perin, A (CERN) ; Sisti, M (CERN) ; Van Weelderen, R (CERN) ; Lees, A (CERN) ; Gahier, V (CERN) ; Brodzinski, K (CERN) ; Delprat, L (CERN)
The discovery of a Higgs boson at CERN in 2012 was the start of a major program working to measure this particle’s properties with the highest possible precision for testing the validity of the Standard Model and to search for further new physics at the energy frontier. The LHC is in a unique position to pursue this program. [...]

/ Yammine, S (CERN) ; Bajko, M (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Bednarek, M J (CERN) ; Bozzini, D (CERN) ; Blanchard, S (CERN) ; Brüning, O (CERN) ; Cruikshank, P (CERN) ; Denz, R (CERN) ; Ramos, D Duarte (CERN) et al.
This contribution describes the experimental program already undergoing and to be completed on the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) Inner Triplet (IT) String, an important intermediate milestone of the HL-LHC project at CERN. First, it describes the magnet circuits of the HL-LHC IT String. [...]

HL-LHC IT STRING: Status and Perspectives
/ Bajko, M (CERN) ; Baglin, V (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Bednarek, M J (CERN) ; Bertolasi, S (CERN) ; Bertone, C (CERN) ; Blanchard, S (CERN) ; Bozzini, D (CERN) ; Coulot, E (CERN) ; Coupat, C (CERN) et al.
The HL-LHC IT STRING, an integrated test stand for the major components of the HL-LHC Inner Triplet (IT) zone, is in its construction phase in a surface building at CERN. The main motivation is to study and validate the collective behavior of the different systems: magnets, circuit protection, cryogenics for magnets and superconducting link, magnet powering, vacuum, alignment, and interconnections between magnets and superconducting link. Assessment of the operation safety margin of the HL-LHC superconducting recombination Dipole D2 in case of helium filling failure
/ Rousset, B (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Bancel, F (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Besson, N (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Bon-Mardion, M (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Claudet, S (CERN) ; Goy, T (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Millet, F (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Nivelon, P (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Perin, A (CERN)
After the successful completion of the cryogenic performance tests of the He II heat exchanger prototype for the D2 recombination dipole of the future HL-LHC project at CERN, specific measurements were performed to determine the operation safety margin in case of abnormal operating conditions. This is particularly relevant in case of the failure of liquid helium supply in the He II cold source. [...]

Cryogenic performances of a heat exchanger prototype suitable for the superconducting HL-LHC recombination dipole D2
/ Rousset, B (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Bancel, F (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Besson, N (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Bon-Mardion, M (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Claudet, S (CERN) ; Goy, T (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Millet, F (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Nivelon, P (IRIG, Grenoble) ; Perin, A (CERN)
In the framework of the future High Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) at CERN, most superconducting magnets in the Long Straight Sections will be replaced. Among them, the new D2 recombination dipole will be a He II conduction-cooled magnet with a larger aperture than the LHC dipoles. [...]

/ Rolando, G (CERN) ; Sisti, M (CERN) ; Duran Lucas, O (CERN) ; Wanninger, A (CERN) ; Mouleyre, J (CERN) ; Perin, A (CERN)
The High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) is a project aiming to upgrade the LHC collider to maintain scientific progress and exploit its full capacity. In the HL-LHC configuration, the Inner Triplet (IT) magnets of the present LHC will be replaced by a new set of higher performance magnets. [...]

In the framework of the HL-LHC project, full-scale integration and operational tests of the superconducting magnet chain, from the inner triplet quadrupoles up to the first separation/recombination dipole, are planned in conditions as similar as possible to the final set-up in the LHC tunnel. The IT String includes all of the required systems for operation at nominal conditions, such as vacuum, cryogenics, warm and cold powering equipment, and protection systems. [...]
