/ Arrowsmith-Kron, Gordon (Michigan State U.) ; Athanasakis-Kaklamanakis, Michail (CERN ; Leuven U.) ; Au, Mia (CERN ; Mainz U.) ; Ballof, Jochen (CERN ; Michigan State U.) ; Berger, Robert (Philipps U. Marburg) ; Borschevsky, Anastasia (U. Groningen, VSI) ; Breier, Alexander A. Molecules containing short-lived, radioactive nuclei are uniquely positioned to enable a wide range of scientific discoveries in the areas of fundamental symmetries, astrophysics, nuclear structure, and chemistry. Recent advances in the ability to create, cool, and control complex molecules down to the quantum level, along with recent and upcoming advances in radioactive species production at several facilities around the world, create a compelling opportunity to coordinate and combine these efforts to bring precision measurement and control to molecules containing extreme nuclei. UCx target production at TRIUMF in the ARIEL era
/ Cervantes, Marla (TRIUMF ; U. Victoria (main)) ; Fouquet-Métivier, Pauline (Haute Alsace U., ENSCMU) ; Kunz, Peter (TRIUMF ; Simon Fraser U., Burnaby (main)) ; Lambert, Laura (TRIUMF ; CERN) ; Mjos, Anders (TRIUMF) ; Goodacre, Thomas Day (TRIUMF) ; Wong, John (TRIUMF) ; Gottberg, Alexander (TRIUMF ; U. Victoria (main))
The Advanced Rare IsotopE Laboratory (ARIEL) will increase TRIUMF’s radioactive ion beam capabilities. As
part of the ARIEL target material research and development campaign, a new method to produce targets of
mixed uranium carbide with excess graphite has been proposed and tested. [...]

Development of a Proton-to-Neutron Converter for Radioisotope Production at ISAC-TRIUMF
/ Egoriti, Luca (TRIUMF ; British Columbia U., Chem. Dept.) ; Bricault, Pierre (TRIUMF) ; Day Goodacre, Thomas (TRIUMF) ; Delonca, Melanie (CERN) ; Dierckx, Marc (SCK-CEN, Mol) ; Dos Santos Augusto, Ricardo Manuel (CERN ; Munich U.) ; Gottberg, Alexander (TRIUMF ; Victoria U.) ; Houngbo, Donald (SCK-CEN, Mol) ; Popescu, Lucia (SCK-CEN, Mol) ; Ramos, Joao Pedro (CERN) et al.
At ISAC-TRIUMF, a 500 MeV proton beam is impinged upon “thick” targets to induce nuclear reactions to produce reaction products that are delivered as a Radioactive Ion Beam (RIB) to experiments. Uranium carbide is among the most commonly used target materials which produces a vast radionuclide inventory coming from both spallation and fission-events. [...]

Direct Observation of Nanosecond Water Exchange Dynamics at a Protein Metal Site
/ Stachura, Monika (Copenhagen U.) ; Chakraborty, Saumen (Michigan State U., Dept. Chem.) ; Gottberg, Alexander (CERN) ; Ruckthong, Leela (Michigan State U., Dept. Chem.) ; Pecoraro, Vincent L (Michigan State U., Dept. Chem.) ; Hemmingsen, Lars (Copenhagen U.)
Nanosecond ligand exchange dynamics at metal sites within proteins is essential in catalysis, metal ion transport, and regulatory metallobiochemistry. Herein we present direct observation of the exchange dynamics of water at a $Cd^{2+}$ binding site within two de novo designed metalloprotein constructs using $^{111m}$Cd perturbed angular correlation (PAC) of γ-rays and $^{113}$Cd NMR spectroscopy. TDPAC and β-NMR applications in chemistry and biochemistry
/ Jancso, Attila (Szeged U.) ; Correia, Joao G (CERN ; IST/ITN, Lisbon) ; Gottberg, Alexander (TRIUMF) ; Schell, Juliana (CERN ; Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Stachura, Monika (TRIUMF) ; Szunyogh, D (Szeged U. ; Copenhagen U.) ; Pallada, Stavroula (CERN ; Bohr Inst. ; Democritus U., Thrace) ; Lupascu, Doru C (Duisburg-Essen U.) ; Kowalska, Magdalena (CERN) ; Hemmingsen, Lars (Bohr Inst.)
Time differential perturbed angular correlation (TDPAC) of γ-rays spectroscopy has been applied in chemistry and biochemistry for decades. Herein we aim to present a comprehensive review of chemical and biochemical applications of TDPAC spectroscopy conducted at ISOLDE over the past 15 years, including elucidation of metal site structure and dynamics in proteins and model systems. Characterization of uranium carbide target materials to produce neutron-rich radioactive beams
/ Tusseau-Nenez, Sandrine (Orsay, IPN) ; Roussière, Brigitte (Orsay, IPN) ; Barré-Boscher, Nicole (Orsay, IPN) ; Gottberg, Alexander (CERN) ; Corradetti, Stefano (INFN, Legnaro) ; Andrighetto, Alberto (INFN, Legnaro) ; Cheikh Mhamed, Maher (Orsay, IPN) ; Essabaa, Saïd (Orsay, IPN) ; Franberg-Delahaye, Hanna (GANIL) ; Grinyer, Joanna (GANIL) et al.
In the framework of a R&D; program aiming to develop uranium carbide (UCx) targets for radioactive nuclear beams, the Institut de Physique Nucléaire d’Orsay (IPNO) has developed an experimental setup to characterize the release of various fission fragments from UCx samples at high temperature. The results obtained in a previous study have demonstrated the feasibility of the method and started to correlate the structural properties of the samples and their behavior in terms of nuclear reaction product release. Precise lattice location of substitutional and interstitial Mg in AlN
/ Amorim, Lígia Marina (Leuven U.) ; Wahl, Ulrich (IST/ITN, Lisbon) ; Pereira, Lino Miguel da Costa (Leuven U.) ; Decoster, Stefan (Leuven U.) ; Silva, Daniel José (Porto U.) ; Silva, Manuel Ribeiro da (Lisbon U., CFAUL) ; Gottberg, Alexander (CERN) ; Correia, João Guilherme (IST/ITN, Lisbon) ; Temst, Kristiaan (Leuven U.) ; Vantomme, André (Leuven U.)
The lattice site location of radioactive $^{27}$Mg implanted in AlN was determined by means of emission channeling. The majority of the $^{27}$Mg was found to substitute for Al, yet significant fractions (up to 33%) were also identified close to the octahedral interstitial site. [...]
