Broadband Multi-wavelength Properties of M87 during the 2018 EHT Campaign including a Very High Energy Flaring Episode / Event Horizon Telescope Multi-wavelength Science Collaboration
The nearby elliptical galaxy M87 contains one of the only two supermassive black holes whose emission surrounding the event horizon has been imaged by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). [...]

Production rates of long-lived radionuclides Be10 and Al26 under direct muon-induced spallation in granite quartz and its implications for past high-energy cosmic ray fluxes / Sakurai, H (Yamagata U.) ; Kurebayashi, Y (Yamagata U.) ; Suzuki, S (Yamagata U.) ; Horiuchi, K (Hirosaki U.) ; Takahashi, Y (Yamagata U.) ; Doshita, N (Yamagata U.) ; Kikuchi, S (Yamagata U.) ; Tokanai, F (Yamagata U.) ; Iwata, N (Yamagata U.) ; Tajima, Y (Yamagata U.) et al.
This study measured the Be10 and Al26 production cross sections of muon-induced long-lived radionuclides to investigate the long-term variations in high-energy cosmic ray muon yields and high-energy galactic cosmic rays over a few million years. We exposed targets consisting of synthetic silica plates and quartz samples in a 1-m-long granite core to a beam containing 8.79×1012 positive muons over ∼120  days with an energy of 160 GeV extracted at the COMPASS experiment line at CERN-SPS. T2K measurements of muon neutrino and antineutrino disappearance using $3.13\times 10^{21}$ protons on target / T2K Collaboration
We report measurements by the T2K experiment of the parameters $\theta_{23}$ and $\Delta m^2_{32}$ which govern the disappearance of muon neutrinos and antineutrinos in the three-flavor PMNS neutrino oscillation model at T2K's neutrino energy and propagation distance. Utilizing the ability of the experiment to run with either a mainly neutrino or a mainly antineutrino beam, muon-like events from each beam mode are used to measure these parameters separately for neutrino and antineutrino oscillations. Integrated modeling of the beam formation and extraction in the Linac4 hydrogen negative ion source / Nishioka, S (Keio U.) ; Abe, S (Keio U.) ; Mattei, S (CERN) ; Lallement, J B (CERN) ; Kalvas, T (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Hatayama, A (Keio U.) ; Lettry, J (CERN)
In order to make the predictive simulation tools for the extracted beam current and emittance in the Linac4 H− ion source, we have launched the development of the integrated model for the H− ion beam formation and extraction process. More specifically, our 3D KEIO-Beam Formation and eXtraction (3D KEIO-BFX) is coupled with the NINJA, IBSIMU and TRAVEL. [...]

Analysis of H− extraction in the Linac4 negative ion source by 2.5D particle simulation / Abe, S (Keio U.) ; Nishioka, S (Keio U.) ; Mattei, S (CERN) ; Miyamoto, K (Naruto U. of Education) ; Hatayama, A (Keio U.) ; Lettry, J (CERN)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the extraction mechanisms of the H− ions in the Linac4 negative ion source by using an improved two-dimensional in real space and three-dimensional in velocity space Particle in Cell (2D3V-PIC) model. In this model, the following collision processes of the surface produced H− (Hsp−) ions have been introduced and the effects of the collisions on H− extraction have been analyzed: elastic (Hsp− - H2) and charge exchange (Hsp− - H). [...]

Effects of the extraction voltage applied by the puller-electrode on the H$^−$ extraction in the Linac4 negative ion source / Abe, S (Keio U.) ; Nishioka, S (Keio U.) ; Mattei, S (CERN) ; Hatayama, A (Keio U.) ; Lettry, J (CERN)
In order to understand the H$^−$ extraction mechanism and investigate the effect of the extraction voltage applied by the puller-electrode on the H$^−$ extraction in the Linac4 negative ion source, we are developing a 2D3V-PIC (two dimensions in the real space and three dimensions in the velocity space, Particle in Cell) model with volume produced H$^−$ ions. It is shown that how to take the magnetic filter field direction is important for the 2D modeling to take into account the important 3D effect of electron $E \times B$ drift. [...]

Effect of Coulomb collision on the negative ion extraction mechanism in negative ion sources / Goto, I (Keio U.) ; Miyamoto, K (Naruto U. of Education) ; Nishioka, S (Keio U.) ; Mattei, S (CERN) ; Lettry, J (CERN) ; Abe, S (Keio U.) ; Hatayama, A (Keio U.)
To improve the H− ion beam optics, it is necessary to understand the energy relaxation process of surface produced H− ions in the extraction region of Cs seeded H− ion sources. Coulomb collisions of charged particles have been introduced to the 2D3V-PIC (two dimension in real space and three dimension in velocity space particle-in-cell) model for the H− extraction by using the binary collision model.
