We present the result of an experiment to measure the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the neutron at the Paul Scherrer Institute using Ramsey's method of separated oscillating magnetic fields with ultracold neutrons (UCN). Our measurement stands in the long history of EDM experiments probing physics violating time reversal invariance. [...]

An array of sixteen laser-pumped scalar Cs magnetometers was part of the neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) experiment taking data at the Paul Scherrer Institute in 2015 and 2016. It was deployed to measure the gradients of the experiment's magnetic field and to monitor their temporal evolution. [...]

Probing fundamental symmetries with ultra-cold neutrons: the measurement of the neutron electric dipole moment at PSI / Roccia, Stéphanie (speaker) (Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL))
Experiments searching for a permanent electric dipole moment of the neutron (nEDM) aim at discovering new sources of CP violation beyond the Standard Model of particle physics and understanding the origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the Universe. So far, no evidence for such an intrinsic property was observed, neither for the neutron nor for any other system. The quest for the neutron electric dipole moment (neutron EDM) started more than sixty years ago [...]

The on-line low temperature nuclear orientation facility NICOLE / Ohtsubo, T (Niigata U.) ; Roccia, S (CSNSM, Orsay) ; Stone, N J (Tennessee U. ; Oxford U.) ; Stone, J R (Tennessee U. ; Oxford U.) ; Gaulard, C (CSNSM, Orsay) ; Köster, U (Laue-Langevin Inst.) ; Nikolov, J (Novi Sad U.) ; Simpson, G S (LPSC, Grenoble) ; Veskovic, M (Novi Sad U.)
We review major experiments and results obtained by the on-line low temperature nuclear orientation method at the NICOLE facility at ISOLDE, CERN since the year 2000 and highlight their general physical impact. This versatile facility, providing a large degree of controlled nuclear polarization, was used for a long-standing study of magnetic moments at shell closures in the region Z = 28, N = 28–50 but also for dedicated studies in the deformed region around A ∼ 180. Measurement of lifetimes in $^{62,64}$Fe,$^{61,63}$Co , and $^{59}$Mn / Klintefjord, M (Oslo U.) ; Ljungvall, J (CSNSM, Orsay) ; Görgen, A (Oslo U.) ; Lenzi, S M (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Bello Garrote, F L (Oslo U) ; Blazhev, A (Cologne U.) ; Clément, E (GANIL) ; de France, G (GANIL) ; Delaroche, J P (CEA DAM) ; Désesquelles, P (CSNSM, Orsay) et al.
Lifetimes of the 41+ states in 62,64Fe and the 11/21− states in 61,63Co and 59Mn were measured at the Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) facility by using the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) and the large-acceptance variable mode spectrometer (VAMOS++). The states were populated through multinucleon transfer reactions with a U238 beam impinging on a Ni64 target, and lifetimes in the picosecond range were measured by using the recoil distance Doppler shift method. A Revised Experimental Upper Limit on the Electric Dipole Moment of the Neutron / Pendlebury, J  M (Sussex U.) ; Afach, S (PSI, Villigen ; Zurich, ETH) ; Ayres, N J (Sussex U.) ; Baker, C A (Rutherford) ; Ban, G (Caen U.) ; Bison, G (PSI, Villigen) ; Bodek, K (Jagiellonian U) ; Burghoff, M (Berlin, Phys. We present for the first time a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the experimental results that set the current world sensitivity limit on the magnitude of the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the neutron. We have extended and enhanced our earlier analysis to include recent developments in the understanding of the effects of gravity in depolarizing ultracold neutrons (UCN); an improved calculation of the spectrum of the neutrons; and conservative estimates of other possible systematic errors, which are also shown to be consistent with more recent measurements undertaken with the apparatus. Gravitational Depolarization of Ultracold Neutrons: Comparison with Data / Afach, S (Zurich, ETH) ; Ayres, N J ; Baker, C A (Rutherford) ; Ban, G (Caen U.) ; Bison, G (PSI, Villigen) ; Bodek, K (Jagiellonian U.) ; Fertl, M (PSI, Villigen ; Zurich, ETH) ; Franke, B (PSI, Villigen ; Zurich, ETH) ; Geltenbort, P (Laue-Langevin Inst.) ; Green, K (Guelph U. ; Rutherford) et al.
We compare the expected effects of so-called gravitationally enhanced depolarization of ultracold neutrons to measurements carried out in a spin-precession chamber exposed to a variety of vertical magnetic-field gradients. In particular, we have investigated the dependence upon these field gradients of spin depolarization rates and also of shifts in the measured neutron Larmor precession frequency. [...]
