Two types of nested orbit correctors are necessary for LHC upgrade, the so-called MCBXFA and MCBXFB. They share the same cross section, but feature different lengths, 2.5 and 1.5 m, respectively. [...]

The second prototype of the MCBXFB nested orbit corrector for the upgrade of the LHC has been manufactured at CIEMAT and assembled at CERN, in the framework of the HL-LHC project. This paper describes the changes introduced with respect to the first prototype in order to test some design improvements intended for the series magnets. [...]

Status of the 16 T Dipole Development Program for a Future Hadron Collider

A next step of energy increase of hadron colliders beyond the LHC requires high-field superconducting magnets capable of providing a dipolar field in the range of 16 T in a 50-mm aperture with accelerator quality. These characteristics could meet the requirements for an upgrade of the LHC to twice the present beam energy or for a 100-TeV center of mass energy future circular collider. [...]

/ Tommasini, Davide (CERN) ; Auchmann, B (CERN) ; Bajas, Hugues (CERN) ; Bajko, Marta (CERN) ; Ballarino, Amalia (CERN) ; Bellomo, Giovanni (INFN, Milan) ; Benedikt, Michael (CERN) ; Izquierdo Bermudez, Susana (CERN) ; Bordini, Bernardo (CERN) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) et al.
Abstract:
A key challenge for a future circular collider (FCC) with centre-of-mass energy of 100 TeV and a circumference in the range of 100 km is the development of high-field superconducting accelerator magnets, capable of providing a 16 T dipolar field of accelerator quality in a 50 mm aperture. This paper summarizes the strategy and actions being undertaken in the framework of the FCC 16 T Magnet Technology Program and the Work Package 5 of the EuroCirCol..

Considerations on a Cost Model for High-Field Dipole Arc Magnets for FCC
/ Schoerling, Daniel (CERN) ; Durante, Maria (CEA/IRFU,Centre d'etude de Saclay Gif-sur-Yvette (FR)) ; Lorin, Clement (CEA/IRFU,Centre d'etude de Saclay Gif-sur-Yvette (FR)) ; Martinez, Teresa (CIEMAT) ; Ruuskanen, Janne (Tampere University) ; Salmi, Tiina (Tampere University) ; Sorbi, Massimo (INFN Milano) ; Tommasini, Davide (CERN) ; Toral, Fernando (CIEMAT)
In the frame of the European Circular Collider (EuroCirCol), a conceptual design study for a post-Large Hadron Collider (LHC) research infrastructure based on an energy-frontier 100 TeV circular hadron collider [1]–[3], a cost model for the high-field dipole arc magnets is being developed. The aim of the cost model in the initial design phase is to provide the basis for sound strategic decisions towards cost effective designs, in particular: (A) the technological choice of superconducting material and its cost, (B) the target performance of Nb$_{3}$Sn superconductor, (C) the choice of operating temperature (D) the relevant design margins and their importance for cost, (E) the nature and extent of grading, and (F) the aperture’s influence on cost.
