/ Zwalinski, L (CERN) ; Barroca, P (Norwegian U. Sci. Tech.) ; Bortolin, C (CERN) ; Bhanot, V (CERN) ; Collot, J (LPSC, Grenoble) ; Daguin, J (CERN) ; Davoine, L (CERN) ; Doubek, M (CERN) ; Giakoumi, D (CERN) ; Hanf, P (CERN) et al.
In the frame of the progress towards the High Luminosity Program of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the ATLAS and CMS experiments are boosting the preparation of their new environmental friendly low temperature detector cooling systems. This paper will present a general overview of the progress in development and construction of the future CO2 cooling systems for silicon detectors at ATLAS and CMS (trackers, calorimeters and timing layers), due for implementation during the 3rd Long Shut Down of LHC (LS3). Applications and perspectives of gas analysis based on sonar instrumentation
/ Rossi, C (INFN, Genoa) ; Battistin, M (CERN) ; Bortolin, C (CERN) ; Crespo-Lopez, O (CERN) ; Deterre, C (DESY) ; Doubek, M (Prague, Tech. U.) ; Hallewell, G (Marseille, CPPM) ; Katunin, S (St. Petersburg, INP) ; Nagai, K (Oxford U.) ; Pearson, B (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) et al.
We have developed ultrasonic instrumentation to simultaneously monitor flow and composition in a variety of gas mixtures. Flow and mixture composition are respectively derived from measurements of the difference and average of sound transit times in two opposite directions in a flowing process gas blend. [...]

63U ATCA rack thermal performance and its integration in the undergound areas
/ Kalinowski, Michal Tomasz (Cracow Tech. U.) ; Bortolin, Claudio (CERN) ; Ulaszewska, Barbara (CERN)
Since for the High Luminosity LHC the instantaneous luminosity will be increased by a factor 3, an efficient trigger selection will be crucial. Therefore, the ATLAS hardware trigger and the calorimeter read-out will be upgraded for HL-LHC to base the trigger decision on much more fine-grained information [...]

New 63U ATCA rack: thermal performances and integration challenge
/ Kalinowski, Michal Tomasz ; Bortolin, Claudio
To save the space in the underground counting rooms during the ATLAS phase II upgrades, aproject dedicated to the study of the impact of installing taller racks within the counting roomswas launched, analysing its cooling performance and the impact on the cooling infrastructures.A new 63U prototype rack equipped with three ATCA shelves, with open-bottom to top airflow,high-power dissipating load blades, three new prototype 2U heat exchangers and various sensorswas installed in a lab. The impact on the cooling performance of stacking three ATCA crateswithin a rack was checked, along with other critical aspects..

ATLAS “Baby-DEMO”
/ Zwalinski, L (CERN) ; Bojdol, K (RSNC, Poznan) ; Bortolin, C (CERN) ; Chmielewski, D (Jagiellonian U.) ; Dziurdzia, P (CERN) ; Giakoumi, D (CERN) ; Godlewski, J (Cracow, INP) ; Ilyashenko, I (PNPI, CSTD) ; Kalinowski, M (CERN) ; Kantor, R (Cracow Tech. U.) et al.
Evaporative CO 2 has been selected as the main detector cooling technology for the Phase II upgrade of the LHC silicon detectors at CERN. In order to provide input to the ATLAS Pixel TDR about the minimum attainable cooling temperature by the end of 2017, ATLAS, with a contribution of CMS, has launched a dedicated detector cooling R&D; study nick-named Baby-DEMO. The AdvancedTCA (ATCA) telecom industry standard has been selected as the hardware platform for the “Phase-II Upgrade” of ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. In November 2014 a project dedicated to the study of the impact of the ATCA integration in the actual counting rooms was launched analysing the impact on the cooling infrastructures. [...]

Production and Integration of the ATLAS Insertable B-Layer
/ ATLAS IBL Collaboration
During the shutdown of the CERN Large Hadron Collider in 2013-2014, an additional pixel layer was installed between the existing Pixel detector of the ATLAS experiment and a new, smaller radius beam pipe. The motivation for this new pixel layer, the Insertable B-Layer (IBL), was to maintain or improve the robustness and performance of the ATLAS tracking system, given the higher instantaneous and integrated luminosities realised following the shutdown.
