ALICE upgrades during the LHC Long Shutdown 2 / ALICE Collaboration
A Large Ion Collider Experiment (ALICE) has been conceived and constructed as a heavy-ion experiment at the LHC. During LHC Runs 1 and 2, it has produced a wide range of physics results using all collision systems available at the LHC. [...]

A Readout System for single ALPIDE sensors of the ALICE Inner Tracking System Upgrade / Siddhanta, Sabyasachi (INFN, Cagliari) ; Marras, Davide (INFN, Cagliari) ; Puggioni, Carlo (INFN, Cagliari) ; Collu, Alberto (Cagliari U.) ; Usai, Gianluca (Cagliari U. ; INFN, Cagliari) ; Rinella, Gianluca Aglieri (CERN) ; Keil, Markus (CERN) ; Mager, Magnus (CERN) ; Musa, Luciano (CERN) ; Reidt, Felix (CERN) et al.
The ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC is installing a new, fast, ultralight Inner Tracking System made of monolithic active pixel sensors (ALPIDE) during the second long shutdown of the LHC (2019–21) to improve upon the present physics measurements and providing insights to physics. ALPIDE is based on TowerJazz 180 nm technology and is a result of an intensive R&D; programme over the last few years. [...]

Monte Carlo simulation of charge collection processes in Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors for the ALICE ITS upgrade / Šuljić, Miljenko (INFN, Trieste ; Trieste U. ; CERN) ; Camerini, Paolo (INFN, Trieste ; Trieste U.) ; van Hoorne, Jacobus W (CERN)
A precise simulation of the response of Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) is difficult to achieve because of the difficulty in describing the charge collection process both in the epitaxial layer, a typically only partially depleted active volume, and in the substrate, a low resistivity bulk, of the sensor. Transient TCAD simulations provide good description of the electric field, but are too slow to be used in the simulation and analysis chain of HEP experiments. [...]

The upgrade of the ATLAS tracking detector for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider at CERN requires the development of novel radiation hard silicon sensor technologies. For the development of depleted CMOS sensors for ATLAS we combined small electrodes with minimal capacitance and advanced processing for fully depleted active sensor volume to achieve radiation hard CMOS sensors in line with ATLAS ITk specifications. Multiplicity dependence of (anti-)deuteron production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV / ALICE Collaboration
In this letter, the production of deuterons and anti-deuterons in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV is studied as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity density at mid-rapidity with the ALICE detector at the LHC. Production yields are measured at mid-rapidity in five multiplicity classes and as a function of the deuteron transverse momentum ($p_{\rm{T}}$). [...]

Calibration of the photon spectrometer PHOS of the ALICE experiment / ALICE Collaboration
The procedure for the energy calibration of the high granularity electromagnetic calorimeter PHOS of the ALICE experiment is presented. The methods used to perform the relative gain calibration, to evaluate the geometrical alignment and the corresponding correction of the absolute energy scale, to obtain the nonlinearity correction coefficients and finally, to calculate the time-dependent calibration corrections, are discussed and illustrated by the PHOS performance in proton-proton (pp) collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV. Measurement of ${\rm D^0}$, ${\rm D^+}$, ${\rm D^{*+}}$ and ${{\rm D^+_s}}$ production in pp collisions at $\mathbf{\sqrt{{\textit s}}~=~5.02~TeV}$ with ALICE / ALICE Collaboration
The measurements of the production of prompt ${\rm D^0}$, ${\rm D^+}$, ${\rm D^{*+}}$, and ${{\rm D^+_s}}$ mesons in proton--proton (pp) collisions at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are reported. D mesons were reconstructed at mid-rapidity ($|y|<0.5$) via their hadronic decay channels ${\rm D}^0 \to {\rm K}^-\pi^+$, ${\rm D}^+\to {\rm K}^-\pi^+\pi^+$, ${\rm D}^{*+} \to {\rm D}^0 \pi^+ \to {\rm K}^- \pi^+ \pi^+$, ${\rm D^{+}_{s}\to \phi\pi^+\to K^{+} K^{-} \pi^{+}}$, and their charge conjugates. Event-shape and multiplicity dependence of freeze-out radii in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV / ALICE Collaboration
Two-particle correlations in high-energy collision experiments enable the extraction of particle source radii by using the Bose-Einstein enhancement of pion production at low relative momentum $q\propto 1/R$. It was previously observed that in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV the average pair transverse momentum $k_{\rm{T}}$ range of such analyses is limited due to large background correlations which were attributed to mini-jet phenomena. [...]
