The 2018 heavy-ion run of the LHC / Jowett, John (CERN) ; Bahamonde Castro, Cristina (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Coello, Jaime (CERN) ; Dilly, Joschua (CERN) ; Fartoukh, Stephane (CERN) ; Fol, Elena (CERN) ; Fuster-Martínez, Nuria (CERN) et al.
The fourth one-month Pb-Pb collision run brought LHC Run 2 to an end in December 2018. Following the tendency to reduce dependence on the configuration of the preceding proton run, a completely new optics cycle with the strongest ever focussing at the ALICE and LHCb experiments was designed and rapidly implemented, demonstrating the maturity of the collider’s operating modes. A serious problem for high current accelerators is the high density of the beam, which is able to destroy the equipment and to make a quench of super conductive magnets. Loss of even a small fraction of this intense beam equipment. [...]

Beam Loss Measurements for Recurring Fast Loss Events During 2017 LHC Operation Possibly Caused by Macroparticles / Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Gorzawski, Arkadiusz (CERN) ; Grob, Laura (CERN) ; Holzer, Eva Barbara (CERN) ; Lindstrom, Bjorn (CERN) ; Medvedeva, Tatiana (CERN) ; Mirarchi, Daniele (CERN) ; Schmidt, Ruediger (CERN) et al.
The availability of the LHC machine was adversely affected in 2017 by tens of beam aborts provoked by frequent loss events in one standard arc cell (16L2). In most of the cases, the dumps were triggered by concurrently developing fast beam instabilities leading to particle losses in the betatron cleaning insertion. [...]

Micrometer sized particles (UFOs) entering the beam are a known cause of localized beam losses since the beginning of high intensity beam operation, however the origin of these particles is not fully known [...]

Observations, Analysis and Mitigation of Recurrent LHC Beam Dumps Caused by Fast Losses in Arc Half-Cell 16L2 / Jimenez, José (CERN) ; Amorim, David (CERN ; U. Grenoble Alpes) ; Antipov, Sergey (CERN) ; Arduini, Gianluigi (CERN) ; Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Bradu, Benjamin (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, Giuseppe (CERN) ; Brodzinski, Krzysztof (CERN) et al.
Recurrent beam dumps significantly perturbed the operation of the CERN LHC in the summer months of 2017, especially in August. These unexpected beam dumps were triggered by fast beam losses that built up in the cryogenic beam vacuum at the half-cell 16 left of LHC-IP2 and were detected either at that location but mainly in the collimation insertions. [...]

Study of dijet events with a large rapidity gap between the two leading jets in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Events with no charged particles produced between the two leading jets are studied in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV. The jets were required to have transverse momentum $p_\mathrm{T}^{\text{jet}}$ > 40 GeV and pseudorapidity 1.5 $<|\eta^{\text{jet}}| <$ 4.7, and to have values of $\eta^{\text{jet}}$ with opposite signs. Search for natural supersymmetry in events with top quark pairs and photons in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 8 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Results are presented from a search for natural gauge-mediated supersymmetry (SUSY) in a scenario in which the top squark is the lightest squark, the next-to-lightest SUSY particle is a bino-like neutralino, and the lightest SUSY particle is the gravitino. The strong production of top squark pairs can produce events with pairs of top quarks and neutralinos, with each bino-like neutralino decaying to a photon and a gravitino. [...]

A search for Higgs boson pair production in the $\mathrm{ b }\mathrm{ b }\tau\tau$ final state in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 8 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Results are presented from a search for production of Higgs boson pairs (HH) where one boson decays to a pair of b quarks and the other to a $\tau$ lepton pair. This work is based on proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment at $ \sqrt{s} = $ 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 18.3 fb$^{-1}$. [...]

Measurement of charged pion, kaon, and proton production in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Transverse momentum spectra of charged pions, kaons, and protons are measured in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The particles, identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker, are measured in the transverse momentum range of pt ~ 0.1-1.7 GeV and rapidities abs(y) < 1. [...]

Exclusive and semi-exclusive $\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ production in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 7 TeV / CMS Collaboration
A measurement is presented of the exclusive and semi-exclusive production of charged pion pairs in proton-proton collisions, $\mathrm{ p p }\to\mathrm{ p }({\mathrm{p}^*} )+ \pi^{+}\pi^{-}+ \mathrm{ p } ({\mathrm{p}^*} )$, where the $\pi^{+} \pi^{-}$ pair is emitted at central rapidities, and the scattered protons stay intact ($\mathrm{p}$) or diffractively dissociate (${\mathrm{p}^*} $) without detection.
