Radiation Protection at the Large Hadron Collider: Problematics, Challenges and Advanced Monte Carlo Simulation Techniques / Infantino, Angelo (CERN) ; Björkman, Daniel (CERN) ; Elie, Lucie (CERN) ; Maietta, Maddalena (CERN) ; Tromel, Christophe (CERN) ; Vincke, Heinz (CERN)
This paper provides an overview of the problems, challenges, and the advanced simulation techniques used to study and plan complex interventions in radiation areas at CERNs Large Hadron Collider and its future upgrade to the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider. The operational radiation protection aspects are supported by state of the art simulations by means of the FLUKA Monte Carlo code and estimates conducted via other tools such as ActiWiz and SESAME, used within the HSE-RP group..

SND@LHC: The Scattering and Neutrino Detector at the LHC / SND@LHC Collaboration
SND@LHC is a compact and stand-alone experiment designed to perform measurements with neutrinos produced at the LHC in the pseudo-rapidity region of ${7.2 < \eta < 8.4}$. The experiment is located 480 m downstream of the ATLAS interaction point, in the TI18 tunnel. [...]

How Efficient Are Monte Carlo Calculations Together With the Q-System to Determine Radioactive Transport Limits? Case Study on Medical Radionuclides / Maietta, Maddalena (SUBATECH, Nantes ; ARRONAX GIP, Nantes) ; Haddad, Ferid (SUBATECH, Nantes ; ARRONAX GIP, Nantes) ; Avila, Sebastien (Naogen Pharma, Nantes)
The development of the so-called theranostics approach, in which imaging information are used to define a personalized therapeutic strategy, is driving the increasing use of radionuclides in nuclear medicine. They are artificially produced either in nuclear reactors, charged particle accelerators, or using radionuclide generators. [...]

Chapter 19: Safety / Otto, Thomas (CERN) ; Adorisio, C (CERN) ; Gaignant, C (CERN) ; Infantino, Angelo (CERN) ; Maietta, M (CERN)
CERN declares in its safety policy that it will ensure the best possible protection in health and safety matters of all persons participating in the Organization’s activities or present on its site, as well as of the population living in the vicinity of its installations, limit the impact of the Organization’s activities on the environment, and guarantee the use of best practice in matters of safety. A safety organisation accompanies the life cycle of every large project, such as the HL-LHC, to ensure that the Organization’s safety objectives are met. This Chapter describes the safety assessment process applied to the deliverables of the HL-LHC project. [...]

Propagation of Radioactive Contaminants Along the Isolde Beamline / Kersevan, Roberto (CERN) ; Ady, Marton (CERN) ; Dorsival, Alexandre (CERN) ; Gottberg, Alexandre (TRIUMF) ; Maietta, Maddalena (CERN) ; Vandoni, Giovanna (CERN)
The vacuum system of RIB facilities is entirely hermetical, with storage of effluents and controlled release to atmosphere after a decay time. In Isolde, distributed primary pumping is sectorized in three parts, but all effluents are conveyed together in a unique tank. [...]
