Harnessing Postgres and HPC for Petabyte-Scale Variable Star Classification in Astronomy / Nienartowicz, Krzysztof (speaker) (Sednai) ; Krefl, Daniel (speaker) (Sednai)
In this talk, we will showcase our use of a Massively Parallel Postgres Database as a petabyte-scale astronomical datastore, powering variable star analysis for the ESA Gaia space telescope. Our presentation will also highlight two Postgres extensions developed in-house: a new Postgres-to-Java interface and a GPU-accelerated vector index. [...]

Innovation Inst., UAE) ; Krefl, Daniel (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Carrazza, Stefano (Milan U. ; INFN, Milan ; Technol. Innovation Inst., UAE ; CERN) ; Nielsen, Frank (Sony Computer Sci. Lab., Tokyo)
The estimation of probability density functions is a non trivial task that over the last years has been tackled with machine learning techniques. [...]

Sampling the Riemann-Theta Boltzmann Machine / Carrazza, Stefano (CERN) ; Krefl, Daniel (CERN)
We show that the visible sector probability density function of the Riemann-Theta Boltzmann machine corresponds to a gaussian mixture model consisting of an infinite number of component multi-variate gaussians. The weights of the mixture are given by a discrete multi-variate gaussian over the hidden state space. [...]

Riemann-Theta Boltzmann Machine / Krefl, Daniel (CERN) ; Carrazza, Stefano (CERN) ; Haghighat, Babak (Tsinghua U., Beijing) ; Kahlen, Jens (Unlisted, DE)
A general Boltzmann machine with continuous visible and discrete integer valued hidden states is introduced. Under mild assumptions about the connection matrices, the probability density function of the visible units can be solved for analytically, yielding a novel parametric density function involving a ratio of Riemann-Theta functions. Machine Learning of Calabi-Yau Volumes / Krefl, Daniel (CERN) ; Seong, Rak-Kyeong (Uppsala U.)
We employ machine learning techniques to investigate the volume minimum of Sasaki-Einstein base manifolds of non-compact toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds. We find that the minimum volume can be approximated via a second order multiple linear regression on standard topological quantities obtained from the corresponding toric diagram. [...]

Non-Perturbative Quantum Geometry III / Krefl, Daniel (CERN)
The Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit of the refined topological string on toric Calabi-Yau manifolds and the resulting quantum geometry is studied from a non-perturbative perspective. The quantum differential and thus the quantum periods exhibit Stockes phenomena over the combined string coupling and quantized Kaehler moduli space. [...]

ABCD of Beta Ensembles and Topological Strings / Krefl, Daniel (UC, Berkeley) ; Walcher, Johannes (McGill U. ; McGill U., Math. Stat.)
We study beta-ensembles with Bn, Cn, and Dn eigenvalue measure and their relation with refined topological strings. Our results generalize the familiar connections between local topological strings and matrix models leading to An measure, and illustrate that all those classical eigenvalue ensembles, and their topological string counterparts, are related one to another via various deformations and specializations, quantum shifts and discrete quotients. Shift versus Extension in Refined Partition Functions / Krefl, Daniel (UC, Berkeley) ; Walcher, Johannes (CERN)
We have recently shown that the global behavior of the partition function of N=2 gauge theory in the general Omega-background is captured by special geometry in the guise of the (extended) holomorphic anomaly equation. [...]

Extended Holomorphic Anomaly in Gauge Theory / Krefl, Daniel (Tokyo U., IPMU) ; Walcher, Johannes (CERN)
The partition function of an N=2 gauge theory in the Omega-background satisfies, for generic value of the parameter beta=-eps_1/eps_2, the, in general extended, but otherwise beta-independent, holomorphic anomaly equation of special geometry. Modularity together with the (beta-dependent) gap structure at the various singular loci in the moduli space completely fixes the holomorphic ambiguity, also when the extension is non-trivial. [...]

The Real Topological Vertex at Work / Krefl, Daniel (Tokyo U., IPMU) ; Pasquetti, Sara (CERN) ; Walcher, Johannes (CERN)
We develop the real vertex formalism for the computation of the topological string partition function with D-branes and O-planes at the fixed point locus of an anti-holomorphic involution acting non-trivially on the toric diagram of any local toric Calabi-Yau manifold. Our results cover in particular the real vertex with non-trivial fixed leg. [...]
