Targets and ion sources at CERN-ISOLDE — Facilities and developments
/ Rothe, S (CERN) ; Au, M (CERN ; Mainz U.) ; Ballof, J (CERN ; Mainz U.) ; Barbero, E (CERN) ; Bissell, M (CERN) ; Boucherie, A (CERN) ; Bovigny, M (CERN) ; Chrysalidis, K (CERN) ; Crepieux, B (CERN) ; Cruikshank, J (CERN) et al.
At the CERN-ISOLDE radioactive ion beam facility, thick targets are irradiated using a beam of 1.4-GeV protons. One of ISOLDE’s key features is the large choice of ion source types and target materials available, enabling us to select the ideal combination for optimal intensity and purity of the isotopes requested by ISOLDE users. Located at CERN, ISOLDE is one of the world’s lead-ing research facilities in the field of nuclear science. Radioactive Ion Beams (RIBs) are produced when 1.4 GeV protons transferred from the Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) to the facility impinge on one of the two available targets. [...]

Characterization of the Beam Energy Spread at the REX/HIE-ISOLDE Linac
/ Lozano, Miguel (CERN) ; Bidault, Niels (CERN) ; Fadakis, Eleftherios (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Matli, Emanuele (CERN) ; Rodriguez, Jose (CERN)
ISOLDE is an on-line radioactive isotope separator located at CERN that works by colliding protons accelerated in the PS Booster into a fixed target and by separating the resultant ionized isotopes using a magnetic separator. The completion of the HIE-ISOLDE superconducting linac allows the acceleration of these ions to energy levels that were not reachable before, opening the door to new experiments in different fields. [...]

Software applications for beam traceability and machine documentation at ISOLDE
/ Fadakis, Eleftherios (CERN) ; Bidault, Niels (CERN) ; Lozano Benito, Miguel (CERN) ; Matli, Emanuele (CERN) ; Rodriguez, Jose (CERN) ; Seintaridis, Konstantinos (CERN)
The ISOLDE facility at CERN requires a wide variety of software applications to ensure maximum productivity. It will be further enforced by two new applications; Automatic Save After set uP (ASAP) and Fast Beam Investigation (FBI). [...]

The HIE-ISOLDE Linac (High Intensity and Energy) is a recent upgrade to the ISOLDE facility of CERN, increasing the maximum beam energy and providing means to explore more scientific opportunities. The main software tools required to set up the new superconducting post-accelerator and to characterise the beam provided to the experimental stations will be presented in this paper. [...]

HIE-ISOLDE SC Linac progress and commissioning in 2016
/ Venturini Delsolaro, Walter (CERN) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Delruelle, Nicolas (CERN) ; Elias, Michal (CERN) ; Fadakis, Eleftherios (CERN) ; Ferreira Somoza, Jose (CERN) ; Formenti, Fabio (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Gayde, Jean-Christophe (CERN) ; Guillotin, Nicolas (CERN) et al.
After the first successful physics run with radioactive ion beams at HIE ISOLDE, in October 2015 [1], the staged deployment of the linac continued in 2016 by adding a second cryomodule and by refurbishing the first one. During the physics run with one cryomodule, the second cryomodule was being assembled. [...]

The High Intensity and Energy ISOLDE project (HIE-ISOLDE)* is a major upgrade of the ISOLDE facility at CERN. The energy range of the post-accelerator will be extended from 2.85 MeV/u to 9.3 MeV/u for beams with A/q = 4.5 (and to 14.3 MeV/u for A/q = 2.5) once all the cryomodules of the superconducting accelerator are in place.
