The mechanism of antiproton-nucleus annihilation at rest is not fully understood, despite substantial previous experimental and theoretical work. In this study we used slow extracted, sub-keV antiprotons from the ASACUSA apparatus at CERN to measure the charged particle multiplicities and their energy deposits from antiproton annihilations at rest on three different nuclei: carbon, molybdenum and gold. The CERN Antiproton Decelerator (AD) provides antiproton beams with a kinetic energy of 5.3 MeV to an active user community. The experiments would profit from a lower beam energy, but this extraction energy is the lowest one possible under good conditions with the given circumference of the AD. [...]

The ASACUSA collaboration is developing methods to extract and transport antiprotons at 20 eV adiabatically for an efficient production of cold antihydrogen atoms using a direct injection scheme. We successfully observed a high production rate of antihydrogen atoms immediately after the mixing of antiprotons..

The ASACUSA CUSP experiment plans a high precision spectroscopy of the ground-state hyperfine splitting of antihydrogen to test CPT symmetry. To perform this, a Rabi-like antiatomic beam method has been developed with a novel double-cusp trap. [...]

ELENA - From Installation to Commissioning

ELENA (Extra Low ENergy Antiproton ring) is an upgrade project at the CERN AD (Antiproton Decelerator). The smaller ELENA ring will further decelerate 5.3 MeV antiprotons from the AD ring down to 100 keV using electron cooling to obtain good deceleration efficiency and dense beams. [...]

ELENA: Installations and Preparations for Commissioning

The Extra Low Energy Antiproton ring (ELENA) is a small 30 m circumference synchroton under construction at CERN to further decelerate antiprotons from the Antiproton Decelerator AD from 5.3 MeV to 100 keV. Controlled deceleration in a synchrotron equipped with an electron cooler to reduce emittances in all three planes will allow the existing AD experiments to increase substantially their antiproton capture efficiencies and render new experiments possible.
