We have observed a significant enhancement in the energy deposition by $25$--$100~\mathrm{GeV}$ photons in a $1~\mathrm{cm}$ thick tungsten crystal oriented along its $\langle 111 \rangle$ lattice axes. At $100~\mathrm{GeV}$, this enhancement, with respect to the value observed without axial alignment, is more than twofold. [...]

Muon detection in electron-positron annihilation for muon collider studies
/ LEMMA Collaboration
The investigation of the energy frontier in physics requires novel concepts for future colliders. The idea of a muon collider is very appealing since it would allow to study particle collisions at up to tens of TeV energy, while offering a cleaner experimental environment with respect to hadronic colliders. Monitored beams for high-precision neutrino flux determination: The ENUBET project

Bruno Kessler, Povo) ; Ballerini, G (INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Insubria U., Como) ; Berra, A (INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Insubria U., Como) ; Bonesini, M (INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Branca, A (INFN, Padua ; Padua U.) ; Brunetti, G (INFN, Padua) ; Calviani, M (CERN) ; Capelli, S (INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Insubria U., Como) ; Carturan, S (INFN, Legnaro) et al.
The knowledge of initial flux, energy and flavour of current neutrino beams is currently the main limitation for a precise measurement of neutrino crosssections. The ENUBET ERC project (2016–2021) is studying a facility based on a narrow-band neutrino beam capable of constraining the neutrino flux normalization through the monitoring of the associated charged leptons in an instrumented decay tunnel. A study of muon-electron elastic scattering in a test beam
/ MUonE Collaboration
In 2018, a test run with muons in the North Area at CERN was performed, running parasitically downstream of the COMPASS spectrometer. The aim of the test was to investigate the elastic interactions of muons on atomic electrons, in an experimental configuration similar to the one proposed by the project MUonE, which plans to perform a very precise measurement of the differential cross-section of the elastic interactions. [...]

Silicon Photomultipliers for the decay tunnel instrumentation of the ENUBET neutrino beam

Bruno Kessler, Povo) ; Ballerini, G (Insubria U., Como ; INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Berra, A (Insubria U., Como ; INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Bonesini, M (INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Branca, A (INFN, Padua ; Turin U.) ; Brizzolari, C (INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Brunetti, G (INFN, Padua) ; Calviani, M (CERN) ; Capelli, S (Insubria U., Como ; INFN, Milan Bicocca) et al.
The goal of the ENUBET project is to demonstrate that a precision of ∼1% on measurement of the absolute neutrino cross section at GeV scale can be achieved by monitoring the positron production in the decay tunnel coming from the three-body semileptonic decays of kaons. The baseline option for the tunnel instrumentation employs a fine-grained shashlik calorimeter with a 4.3 X 0 longitudinal segmentation to separate positrons and pions coming from other decay modes of kaons. Status of the ENUBET Project
/ Terranova, Francesco ; Acerbi, F ; Ballerini, G ; Berra, A ; Bonesini, M ; Brancaj, A ; Brizzolari, C ; Brunetti, G ; Calviani, M ; Capelli, S et al.
The ENUBET Collaboration is designing the first ``monitored neutrino beam'': a beam with an unprecedented control of the flux, energy and flavor of neutrinos at source. In particular, ENUBET monitors the $\nu_e$ production mostly by the detection of large angle positrons from three body semileptonic decays of kaons: $K^+ \rightarrow e^+ \pi^0 \nu_e$. [...]

LEMMA approach for the production of low-emittance muon beams
/ Amapane, N (U. Rome La Sapienza (main)) ; Antonelli, M (Frascati) ; Anulli, F (INFN, Rome) ; Ballerini, G (U. This work introduces an experimental test of the new proposal for a low–emittance muon accelerator (LEMMA). A low–emittance muon beam is obtained from the e$^+$ e$^-$ → μ$^+$ μ$^-$ annihilation process at the threshold energy of 45 GeV eliminating the need for a dedicated muon cooling system. [...]

Status of the ENUBET project

The ENUBET project is studying a narrow band neutrino beam where lepton production can be monitored at single particle level in an instrumented decay tunnel and that could provide a 1% measurement of the neutrino flux at source. The three body semi-leptonic decay of kaons monitored by large angle positron production offers a fully controlled $\nu_{e}$ source at the GeV scale for a new generation of short baseline experiments [...]
