Radioactive ion beam production at the Gamma Factory
/ Nichita, Dragos (ELI-NP, Bucharest ; U. Polytechnic Bucharest (main)) ; Balabanski, Dimiter L. (ELI-NP, Bucharest ; U. Polytechnic Bucharest (main)) ; Constantin, Paul (ELI-NP, Bucharest) ; Krasny, Mieczyslaw W. (Paris U., VI-VII ; CERN) ; Placzek, Wieslaw (Jagiellonian U.)
A very intense gamma beam of the Gamma Factory facility proposed at CERN can be used to generate radioactive ion beams (RIBs) with high production yields and study the structure of exotic neutron-rich nuclei. The radioactive nuclides are generated via photo-fission in several actinide targets and thermalized in high-purity cryogenic helium, filling a gas cell which is enclosing the targets. [...]

Tin is the chemical element with the largest number of stable isotopes. Its complete proton shell, comparable with the closed electron shells in the chemically inert noble gases, is not a mere precursor to extended stability; since the protons carry the nuclear charge, their spatial arrangement also drives the nuclear electromagnetism [...]

Hyperfine structure $A$ and $B$ factors of the atomic $5s\,5p\,\; ^3\rm{P}_2 \rightarrow 5s\,6s\,\; ^3\rm{S}_1$ transition are determined from collinear laser spectroscopy data of $^{107-123}$Cd and $^{111m-123m}$Cd. Nuclear magnetic moments and electric quadrupole moments are extracted using reference dipole moments and calculated electric field gradients, respectively. [...]
