In this paper, we will describe some of the recent experimental measurements [1, 2, 3] performed at CESRTA [4], and the supporting simulations, which probe the interaction of the electron cloud with the stored beam. These experiments have been done over a wide range of beam energies, emittances, bunch currents, and fill patterns, to gather sufficient information to be able to fully characterize the beam-electron-cloud interaction and validate the simulation programs. Direct Numerical Modeling of E-Cloud Driven Instability of a Bunch Train in the CERN SPS
/ Vay, J-L (LBL, Berkeley) ; Venturini, M (LBL, Berkeley) ; Furman, M A (LBL, Berkeley)
The simulation package WARP-POSINST was recently upgraded for handling multiple bunches and modeling concurrently the electron cloud buildup and its effect on the beam, allowing for direct self-consistent simulation of bunch trains generating, and interacting with, electron clouds. We have used the WARP-POSINST package on massively parallel supercomputers to study the buildup and interaction of electron clouds with a proton bunch train in the CERN SPS accelerator. [...]

Simulation Results of a Feedback Control System to Damp Electron Cloud Single-Bunch Transverse Instabilities in the CERN SPS
/ Secondo, R (LBL, Berkeley) ; Vay, J -L (LBL, Berkeley) ; Venturini, M (LBL, Berkeley) ; Fox, J D (SLAC) ; Rivetta, C H (SLAC) ; Höfle, W (CERN)
Transverse Single-Bunch Instabilities due to Electron Cloud effect are limiting the operation at high current of the SPS at CERN. Recently a high-bandwidth Feedback System has been proposed as a possible solution to stabilize the beam and is currently under study. [...]

Electron Cloud at Low Emittance in CesrTA
/ Palmer, Mark (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Alexander, James (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Billing, Michael (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Calvey, Joseph (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Conolly, Christopher (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Crittenden, James (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Dobbins, John (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Dugan, Gerald (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Eggert, Nicholas (Cornell U., CLASSE) ; Fontes, Ernest (Cornell U., CLASSE) et al.
The Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) has been reconfigured as a test accelerator (CesrTA) for a program of electron cloud (EC) research at ultra low emittance. The instrumentation in the ring has been upgraded with local diagnostics for measurement of cloud density and with improved beam diagnostics for the characterization of both the low emittance performance and the beam dynamics of high intensity bunch trains interacting with the cloud [...]

Recommendation for the Feasibility of more Compact LC Damping Rings
/ Pivi, M.T.F. (SLAC) ; Wang, L. (SLAC) ; Demma, T. (Frascati) ; Guiducci, S. (Frascati) ; Suetsugu, Y. (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Shibata, K. (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Ohmi, K. (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Dugan, G. (Cornell U.) ; Palmer, M. (Cornell U.) ; Crittenden, J.A. (Cornell U.) et al.
As part of the international Linear Collider (ILC) collaboration, we have compared the electron cloud (EC) effect for different Damping Ring (DR) designs respectively with 6.4 km and 3.2 km circumference and investigated the feasibility of the shorter damping ring with respect to the electron cloud build-up and related beam instabilities. The studies for a 3.2 km ring were carried out with beam parameters of the ILC Low Power option [...]

E-cloud Driven Single-bunch Instabilities in PS2
/ Venturini, Marco (LBL, Berkeley) ; Furman, Miguel (LBL, Berkeley) ; Penn, Gregory (LBL, Berkeley) ; Secondo, Raffaello (LBL, Berkeley) ; Vay, Jean-Luc (LBL, Berkeley) ; De Maria, Riccardo (CERN) ; Papaphilippou, Yannis (CERN) ; Rumolo, Giovanni (CERN)
One of the proposals under consideration for future upgrades of the LHC injector complex entails the replacement of the PS with the PS2, a longer circumference and higher energy synchrotron, with electron cloud effects representing a potentially serious limitation to the achievement of the upgrade goals. We report on ongoing numerical studies aiming at estimating the e-cloud density threshold for the occurrence of single bunch instabilities

Simulation of E-Cloud driven instability and its attenuation using a feedback system in the CERN SPS
/ Vay, JL (LBL, Berkeley) ; Byrd, J (LBL, Berkeley) ; Furman, M (LBL, Berkeley) ; Secondo, R (LBL, Berkeley) ; Venturini, M (LBL, Berkeley) ; Fox, J (SLAC) ; Rivetta, C (SLAC) ; Hofle, W (CERN)
Electron clouds have been shown to trigger fast growing instabilities on proton beams circulating in the SPS [1], and a feedback system to control the instabilities is under active development [2]. We present the latest improvements to the Warp-Posinst simulation framework and feedback model, and its application to the self-consistent simulations of two consecutive bunches interacting with an electron cloud in the SPS..
