Bunch merging is a well-established technique to increase the intensity of synchrotrons and the luminosity of circular colliders. We suggest to exploit a combination of channeling, volume reflection and amorphous interactions in a bent crystal for beam merging in a transfer line. [...]

Positron sources are the key elements for the future and current lepton collider projects such as ILC, CLIC, SuperKEKB, FCC-ee, Muon Collider/LEMMA, etc., introducing challenging critical requirements for high intensity and low emittance beams in order to achieve high luminosity. In fact, due to their large production emittance and constraints given by the target thermal load, the main collider parameters such as the peak and average current, the emittances, the damping time, the repetition frequency and consequently the luminosity are determined by the positron beam characteristics. A Measurement Method Based on RF Deflector for Particle Bunch Longitudinal Parameters in Linear Accelerators / Sabato, Luca (CERN) ; Arpaia, Pasquale (CERN ; Naples U.) ; Gilardi, Antonio (CERN ; Naples U.) ; Mostacci, Andrea (Rome U.) ; Palumbo, Luigi (Rome U.) ; Variola, Alessandro (Frascati)
In high-brightness electron linear accelerators (LINACs), the particle bunch length is measured by a radio frequency deflector (RFD). The electron bunch is deflected vertically toward a screen and its length can be obtained using vertical spot size measurements after a proper calibration, e.g., measuring the vertical bunch centroid while varying the deflecting voltage phase. Results of simulation and measurements on the LEETECH facility with quartz Cherenkov detector prototype which is one of the candidates for the time-of-flight technique implementation at the upgraded BES-III and HIEPA (China) experiments are presented. The dependence of the electrons time variation from opening of the collimators is determined. [...]

Studies of a scheme for low emittance muon beam production from positrons on target / Collamati, Francesco (INFN, Rome) ; Antonelli, Mario (Frascati) ; Boscolo, Manuela (Frascati) ; Biagini, Marica (Frascati) ; Blanco-Garcia, Oscar (Frascati) ; Variola, Alessandro (Frascati) ; Bacci, Alberto (INFN, Milan) ; Liuzzo, Simone (ESRF, Grenoble) ; Raimondi, Pantaleo (ESRF, Grenoble) ; Chaikovska, Iryna (Orsay, LAL) et al.
A new scheme to produce muon beams characterised by very low emittance, in such a way to avoid the need for cooling, using a positron beam of about 45 GeV interacting on electrons on target is being studied by our group. This scheme is challenging and innovative, and needs a full design study to be developed. [...]

On the wake of the results obtained so far at the SPARC\_LAB test-facility at the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati (Italy), we are currently investigating the possibility to design and build a new multi-disciplinary user-facility, equipped with a soft X-ray Free Electron Laser (FEL) driven by a $\sim$1 GeV high brightness linac based on plasma accelerator modules. This design study is performed in synergy with the EuPRAXIA design study. [...]
