The collider landscape: which collider for establishing the SM instability? / Franceschini, Roberto (Rome III U.) ; Franceschini, Roberto (Rome III U.) ; Strumia, Alessandro (Pisa U.) ; Strumia, Alessandro (Pisa U.) ; Wulzer, Andrea (U. Padua, Dept. Phys. Astron.) ; Wulzer, Andrea (Padua U.)
Capabilities of future colliders are usually discussed assuming specific hypothetical new physics. We consider the opposite possibility: that no new physics is accessible, and we want to learn if the unnatural Standard Model is part of a vast landscape. [...]

Higgstory repeats itself / Strumia, Alessandro (Pisa U.) ; Tetradis, Nikolaos (Athens U. ; CERN)
We consider a scalar potential with two minima, one of which is arbitrarily deep, such as could be the case for the Higgs potential in the Standard Model. A recent calculation within the thin-wall approximation [arXiv:2205.10240] concludes that regions in which the scalar field takes values beyond the top of the potential barrier are forced by gravity to collapse, while they remain hidden behind a black hole horizon. [...]

Dark Matter as dark dwarfs and other macroscopic objects: multiverse relics? / Gross, Christian (Pisa U.) ; Landini, Giacomo (Pisa U.) ; Strumia, Alessandro (Pisa U.) ; Teresi, Daniele (CERN)
First-order phase transitions can leave relic pockets of false vacua and their particles, that manifest as macroscopic Dark Matter. We compute one predictive model: a gauge theory with a dark quark relic heavier than the confinement scale. [...]

Direct anthropic bound on the weak scale from supernovae explosions / D'Amico, Guido (Parma U. ; INFN, Parma ; Stanford U., ITP) ; Strumia, Alessandro (U. Pisa (main)) ; Urbano, Alfredo (INFN, Trieste ; U. Trieste (main)) ; Xue, Wei (CERN)
Core-collapse supernovae presumably explode because trapped neutrinos push the material out of the stellar envelope. This process is directly controlled by the weak scale $v$: we argue that supernova explosions happen only if fundamental constants are tuned within a factor of few as $v \sim \Lambda_{\rm QCD}^{3/4} M_{\rm Pl}^{1/4}$, such that neutrinos are trapped in supernovae for a time comparable to the gravitational time-scale. Bibliometrics for collaboration works / Rossi, Paolo (Pisa U.) ; Strumia, Alessandro (Pisa U.) ; Torre, Riccardo (CERN ; INFN, Genoa)
An important issue in bibliometrics is the weighing of co-authorship in the production of scientific collaborations, which are becoming the standard modality of research activity in many disciplines. [...]

New infra-red enhancements in 4-derivative gravity / Salvio, Alberto (CERN) ; Strumia, Alessandro (CERN ; INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Veermäe, Hardi (CERN ; NICPB, Tallinn)
4-derivative gravity provides a renormalizable theory of quantum gravity at the price of introducing a physical ghost, which could admit a sensible positive-energy quantization. To understand its physics, we compute ghost-mediated scatterings among matter particles at tree-level, finding a new power-like infra-red enhancement typical of 4-derivative theories, that we dub '$ghostrahlung$'. Super-cool Dark Matter / Hambye, Thomas (Brussels U.) ; Strumia, Alessandro (CERN ; INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Teresi, Daniele (Brussels U.)
In dimension-less theories of dynamical generation of the weak scale, the Universe can undergo a period of low-scale inflation during which all particles are massless and super-cool. This leads to a new mechanism of generation of the cosmological Dark Matter (DM) relic density: super-cooling can easily suppress the amount of DM to the desired level. [...]

Biblioranking fundamental physics / Strumia, Alessandro (Pisa U.) ; Torre, Riccardo (CERN ; INFN, Genoa)
We propose measures of the impact of research that improve on existing ones such as counting of number of papers, citations and $h$-index. Since different papers and different fields have largely different average number of co-authors and of references we replace citations with individual citations, shared among co-authors. [...]

We critically reexamine two possible Dark Matter candidate within the Standard Model. First, we consider the $uuddss$ exa-quark. [...]

Bounds on Dark Matter annihilations from 21 cm data / D'Amico, Guido (CERN) ; Panci, Paolo (CERN) ; Strumia, Alessandro (CERN ; INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.)
The observation of an absorption feature in the 21 cm spectrum at redshift $z\approx 17$ implies bounds on Dark Matter annihilations for a broad range of masses, given that significant heating of the intergalactic medium would have erased such feature. The resulting bounds on the DM annihilation cross sections are comparable to the strongest ones from all other observables..
