We report on the characterisation measurements of the energ y spectra from a Be (p,xn) neutron source to be installed at the IGISOL-JYFLTRA P facility for studies of neutron-induced independent fission yields. The ERINDA funded scientific visit has enabled the groups at U ppsala Uni- versity and University of Jyväskylä to work closer together on the design of a neutron converter that will be used as neutron source in fissi on yield studies at the IGISOL-JYFLTRAP facility at the University of Jyväsk ylä. Several detector types have been designed and assembled in order to monitor charged particle beams in a wide range of intensities: silicon microstrip detectors for high precision tracking (spatial resolution better than 5 μm), a scintillating fiber tracker with multianode photomultiplier readout for coarse but fast monitoring, a microstrip silicon detector readout by a counting ASIC to monitor very high intensity beams. These detectors and their readout electronics have been characterized at the BTF (Beam Test Facility) of the INFN National Laboratories of Frascati and used on the H8 line at the CERN SPS as tracking media for the data taking of the H8RD22 collaboration. Multiple volume reflection by different planes passing through the < 111 > axis in a bent silicon crystal was observed for the first time for 150 GeV/c negative particles, pi(-) mesons, at one of the secondary beams of the CERN SPS. The beam of pi(-) mesons was deflected opposite to the crystal bend by an angle of about 48 mu rad, which is 4.6 times larger than in a single volume reflection by the (110) bent planes [...]

Deflection due to axial channeling in a silicon crystal bent along the [111] axis was observed for 150 GeV/c negative particles, mainly π− mesons, at one of the secondary beams of the CERN SPS. The whole beam was deflected to one side with the efficiency of about 90% and with the peak position at the bend crystal angle α=43 μrad. [...]

The proton beam was deflected to the side opposite to the crystal bend by an angle of about 67 μrad, which is five times larger than in a single volume reflection by the (110) bent planes [...]
