Tennessee, Knoxville ; Oak Ridge ; Chalmers U. Tech.) ; Novario, S.J. (U. Tennessee, Knoxville ; Oak Ridge) ; Bai, S.W. (Peking U., SKLNPT) ; Billowes, J. (Manchester U.) ; Binnersley, C.L. Nuclear charge radii are sensitive probes of different aspects of the nucleon-nucleon interaction and the bulk properties of nuclear matter; thus, they provide a stringent test and challenge for nuclear theory. The calcium region has been of particular interest, as experimental evidence has suggested a new magic number at $N = 32$ [1-3], while the unexpectedly large increases in the charge radii [4,5] open new questions about the evolution of nuclear size in neutron-rich systems. The unbound nuclei He-9 and He-10 have been produced in proton-knockout reactions from a 280 MeV/u Li-11 beam impinging on a liquid hydrogen target at the ALADIN-LAND setup at GSI. Information on their nuclear structure has been obtained from the relative-energy spectra, He-8 + n and He-8 + 2n, employing reaction models incorporating the structure of Li-11. [...]

The 14C(n,γ) cross section between 10 keV and 1 M / Reifarth, R (Los Alamos) ; Heil, M (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Forssén, C (LLNL, Livermore ; Chalmers U. Tech.) ; Besserer, U (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Couture, A (Los Alamos) ; Dababneh, S (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Dörr, L (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) ; Görres, J (Notre Dame U.) ; Haight, R C (CERN) ; Käppeler, F (Karlsruhe, Forschungszentrum) et al.
The neutron capture cross section of 14C is of relevance for several nucleosynthesis scenarios such as inhomogeneous Big Bang models, neutron induced CNO cycles, and neutrino driven wind models for the r process. The 14C(n,γ) reaction is also important for the validation of the Coulomb dissociation method, where the (n,γ) cross section can be indirectly obtained via the time-reversed process. [...]
