The HEV Ventilator: at the interface between particle physics and biomedical engineering / Buytaert, Jan (CERN) ; Collins, Paula (CERN ; Liverpool U.) ; Abud, Adam Abed (CERN ; Liverpool U.) ; Allport, Phil (Birmingham U.) ; Álvarez, Antonio Pazos (Santiago de Compostela U., IGFAE) ; Akiba, Kazuyoshi (Nikhef, Amsterdam) ; de Aguiar Francisco, Oscar Augusto (CERN ; Manchester U.) ; Bay, Aurelio (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Bernard, Florian (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Baron, Sophie (CERN) et al.
A high-quality, low-cost ventilator, dubbed HEV, has been developed by the particle physics community working together with biomedical engineers and physicians around the world. The HEV design is suitable for use both in and out of hospital intensive care units, provides a variety of modes and is capable of supporting spontaneous breathing and supplying oxygen-enriched air. Reconstruction of charged tracks with Timepix4 ASICs / Akiba, Kazu (Nikhef, Amsterdam) ; van Beuzekom, Martin (Nikhef, Amsterdam) ; van Beveren, Vincent (Nikhef, Amsterdam) ; Byczynski, Wiktor (CERN ; Cracow Tech. U.) ; Coco, Victor (CERN) ; Collins, Paula (CERN) ; Dall'Occo, Elena (Dortmund U.) ; Dumps, Raphael (CERN) ; Evans, Tim (Manchester U.) ; Geertsema, Robbert (Nikhef, Amsterdam) et al.
The design of a detector system comprised of four silicon sensors bump-bonded to Timepix4 ASICs is described together with its data acquisition system, operational infrastructure, and dedicated software. The spatial and temporal performance of the system are assessed with a 180 GeV/c mixed hadron beam at the CERN SPS and reported in detail. [...]

Considerations for the VELO detector at the LHCb Upgrade II / Akiba, Kazu (Nikhef National institute for subatomic physics (NL)) ; Alexander, Michael Thomas (University of Glasgow (GB)) ; Back, John James (University of Warwick (GB)) ; Bates, Richard (University of Glasgow (GB)) ; Bertella, Claudia (University of Manchester (GB)) ; Van Beuzekom, Martin (Nikhef National institute for subatomic physics (NL)) ; Seman Bobulska, Dana (University of Glasgow (GB)) ; Boente Garcia, Oscar (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (ES)) ; Bogdanova, Galina (M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University (RU)) ; Borghi, Silvia (University of Manchester (GB)) et al.
The LHCb experiment is planning to operate with a 7.5-fold increase in instantaneous luminosity for LHC Runs 5 and 6. The performance of the Vertex Locator detector is crucial in the event reconstruction at the increased pile-up, providing real-time information to be used in the trigger. [...]

The VELO optical and power board / Eklund, Lars (Uppsala University (SE)) ; Van Beuzekom, Martin (Nikhef National institute for subatomic physics (NL)) ; Buytaert, Jan (CERN) ; Dean, Cameron Thomas (Los Alamos National Laboratory (US)) ; De Bruyn, Kristof Antoon M (University of Groningen (NL)) ; Dumps, Raphael (CERN) ; Fernandez Prieto, Antonio (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (ES)) ; Hennessy, Karol (University of Liverpool (GB)) ; Leflat, Alexander (M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University (RU)) ; Lemos Cid, Edgar (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (ES)) et al.
The optical and power boards (OPB) are part of the on-detector electronics system for the LHCb Vertex Detector (VELO) and they are used in LHCb upgrade 1 which is installed in the second long LHC shutdown period. The OPBs are assembled printed circuit boards (PCBs) that are located immediately outside of the VELO detector vacuum tank, in custom made mechanical crates. [...]
