Measurement of the emittance of accelerated electron bunches at the AWAKE experiment / AWAKE Collaboration
The vertical plane transverse emittance of accelerated electron bunches at the AWAKE experiment at CERN has been determined, using three different methods of data analysis. [...]

Selective electron beam sensing through coherent Cherenkov diffraction radiation / Senes, E (CERN) ; Krupa, M (CERN) ; Mazzoni, S (CERN) ; Lasocha, K (CERN) ; Lefevre, T (CERN) ; Shloegelhofer, A (CERN) ; Wendt, M (CERN) ; Davut, C (Manchester U.) ; Karataev, P (JAI, UK) ; Pakuza, C (JAI, UK) et al.
We exploit the coherent emission of Cherenkov diffraction radiation (ChDR) by a relativistic electron beam to sense its position even in the presence of other particle beams. ChDR is produced in alumina inserts embedded in the vacuum chamber walls and recorded in a narrow band centered at 30 GHz. [...]

Experimental Observation of Motion of Ions in a Resonantly Driven Plasma Wakefield Accelerator / AWAKE Collaboration
We show experimentally that an effect of motion of ions, observed in a plasma-based accelerator, depends inversely on the plasma ion mass. [...]

Hosing of a long relativistic particle bunch in plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
Experimental results show that hosing of a long particle bunch in plasma can be induced by wakefields driven by a short, misaligned preceding bunch. Hosing develops in the plane of misalignment, self-modulation in the perpendicular plane, at frequencies close to the plasma electron frequency, and are reproducible. [...]

Filamentation of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
We show in experiments that a long, underdense, relativistic proton bunch propagating in plasma undergoes the oblique instability, that we observe as filamentation. We determine a threshold value for the ratio between the bunch transverse size and plasma skin depth for the instability to occur. [...]

Development of the Self-Modulation Instability of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
Self-modulation is a beam-plasma instability that is useful to drive large-amplitude wakefields with bunches much longer than the plasma skin depth. We present experimental results showing that, when increasing the ratio between the initial transverse size of the bunch and the plasma skin depth, the instability occurs later along the bunch, or not at all, over a fixed plasma length, because the amplitude of the initial wakefields decreases. [...]

Optimization Study of Beam Position and Angular Jitter Independent Bunch Length Monitor for Awake Run 2 / Davut, Can (U. Manchester (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. In this paper, a study using the Polarization Current Approach (PCA) model is performed to optimize the design of a short bunch length monitor using two dielectric radiators that produce coherent Cherenkov Diffraction Radiation (ChDR). The electromagnetic power emitted from each radiator is measuring a different part of the bunch spectrum using Schottky diodes. [...]

Experimental Verification of Several Theoretical Models for ChDR Description / Łasocha, Kacper (Jagiellonian U. (main)) ; Davut, Can (U. In recent years the potential of using Cherenkov Diffraction Radiation (ChDR) as a tool for non-invasive beam diagnostics has been thoroughly investigated. Although several theoretical models of ChDR have been developed, differences in their assumptions result in inconsistent predictions. [...]

Analytical and Numerical Characterization of Cherenkov Diffraction Radiation as a Longitudinal Electron Bunch Profile Monitor for AWAKE Run 2 / Davut, Can (Manchester U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. In this paper, CST simulations of the coherent Cherenkov Diffraction Radiation with a range of parameters for different dielectric target materials and geometries are discussed and compared with the theoretical investigation of the Polarization Current Approach to design a prototype of a radiator for the bunch length/profile monitor for AWAKE Run 2. It was found that the result of PCA theory and CST simulation are consistent with each other regarding the shape of the emitted ChDR cone..
