Bounds on the bubble wall velocity / Ai, Wen-Yuan (King's Coll. London) ; Laurent, Benoit (McGill U., Montreal (main)) ; van de Vis, Jorinde (CERN)
Determining the bubble wall velocity in first-order phase transitions is a challenging task, requiring the solution of (coupled) equations of motion for the scalar field and Boltzmann equations for the particles in the plasma. [...]

Detection of Early-Universe Gravitational Wave Signatures and Fundamental Physics / Caldwell, Robert (Dartmouth Coll.) ; Cui, Yanou (UC, Riverside) ; Guo, Huai-Ke (U. Utah, Salt Lake City) ; Mandic, Vuk (Minnesota U.) ; Mariotti, Alberto (Brussels U., IIHE) ; No, Jose Miguel (Madrid, IFT) ; Ramsey-Musolf, Michael J. Detection of a gravitational-wave signal of non-astrophysical origin would be a landmark discovery, potentially providing a significant clue to some of our most basic, big-picture scientific questions about the Universe. In this white paper, we survey the leading early-Universe mechanisms that may produce a detectable signal -- including inflation, phase transitions, topological defects, as well as primordial black holes -- and highlight the connections to fundamental physics. Preliminary results on the $^{233}$U $\alpha$-ratio measurement at n_TOF / n_TOF Collaboration
$^{233}$U is the fissile nuclei in the Th-U fuel cycle with a particularily small neutron capture cross setion which is on average about one order of magnitude lower than its fission cross section. Hence, the measurement of the $^{233}$U(n,$\gamma$) cross section relies on a method to accurately distinguish between capture and fission $\gamma$-rays. [...]

A compact fission detector for fission-tagging neutron capture experiments with radioactive fissile isotopes / Bacak, M (CERN ; TU Vienna ; IRFU, Saclay) ; Aïche, M (CENBG, Gradignan) ; Bélier, G (CEA DAM) ; Berthoumieux, E (IRFU, Saclay) ; Diakaki, M (IRFU, Saclay) ; Dupont, E (IRFU, Saclay) ; Gunsing, F (IRFU, Saclay ; CERN) ; Heyse, J (Euratom, Geel) ; Kopecky, S (Euratom, Geel) ; Laurent, B (CEA DAM) et al.
In the measurement of neutron capture cross-sections of fissile isotopes, the fission channel is a source of background which can be removed efficiently using the so-called $fission-tagging$ or $fission-veto technique$. For this purpose a new compact and fast fission chamber has been developed. [...]

Chronology of the three-body dissociation of $^8$He / Laurent, B. (Caen U.) ; Marqués, F.M. (Caen U.) ; Angulo, C. (Cathol. U. Louvain (main)) ; Ashwood, N.I. (Birmingham U.) ; Borge, M.J.G. (CSIC, Madrid) ; Bouchat, V. (U. Brussels (main)) ; Catford, W.N. ; Clarke, N.M. (Birmingham U.) ; Curtis, N. (Birmingham U.) ; Freer, M. (Birmingham U.) et al.
The space and time configurations of the dissociation of $^8$He into $^6$He+$n$+$n$, on C and Pb targets, have been explored simultaneously for the first time. The final-state interactions in the $n$-$n$ and $^6$He-$n$ channels are successfully described within a model that considers independent emission of neutrons from a Gaussian volume with a given lifetime.
