(JAI, UK ; Edinburgh U.) ; Burrows, P.N. (JAI, UK) ; Christian, G.B. (JAI, UK ; Diamond Light Source) ; Perry, C. (JAI, UK) ; Ramjiawan, R. (JAI, UK ; CERN)
We report the design, operation and performance of a high-resolution, low-latency, bunch-by-bunch feedback system for nano-beam stabilisation. The system employs novel, ultra-low quality-factor cavity beam position monitors (BPMs), a two-stage analogue signal down-mixing system, and a digital signal processing and feedback board incorporating an FPGA. Simulation Studies of Intra-Train, Bunch-by-Bunch Feedback Systems at the International Linear Collider / Ramjiawan, Rebecca (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Bett, Douglas (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Bodenstein, Ryan (Jefferson Lab ; JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Christian, Glenn (Diamond Light Source ; JAI, UK) ; Perry, Colin (JAI, UK)
The International Linear Collider (ILC) is a proposed electron-positron collider targeting collision energies from 250 GeV to 1 TeV. With design luminosities of order 10³⁴ cm²s⁻¹, a beam-based, intra-train feedback system would be required near the Interaction Point (IP) to provide nanometre-level stabilisation of the beam overlap in the collisions. A High-Resolution, Low-Latency, Bunch-by-Bunch Feedback System for Nano-Beam Stabilization / Ramjiawan, Rebecca (JAI, UK) ; Bett, Douglas (JAI, UK) ; Blaskovic Kraljevic, Neven (ESS, Lund) ; Bromwich, Talitha (Edinburgh U.) ; Burrows, Philip N (JAI, UK) ; Christian, Glenn B (Diamond Light Source) ; Perry, Colin (JAI, UK)
A low-latency, bunch-by-bunch feedback system employing high-resolution cavity Beam Position Monitors (BPMs) has been developed and tested at the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF2) at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), Japan. The feedback system was designed to demonstrate nanometer-level vertical stabilization at the focal point of the ATF2 and can be operated using either a single BPM to provide local beam stabilization, or by using two BPMs to stabilize the beam at an intermediate location. Motion of CMS detector and mechanical structures during Magnet Cycles and Stability Periods from 2008 to 2013 as observed by the Link Alignment System / Arce, P (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Barcala, J M (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Calvo, E (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Ferrando, A (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Josa, M I (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Molinero, A (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Navarrete, J (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Oller, J C (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Brochero, J (Cantabria U., Santander) ; Calderón, A (Cantabria U., Santander) et al.
Magnet Cycles and Stability Periods of the CMS Experiment are studied with the Alignment Link System data recorded along the 2008–2013 years of operation. The motions of the mechanical structures due to the magnetic field forces are studied and the mechanical stability of the detector during the physics data taking periods is verified..

The network of photodetectors and diode lasers of the CMS Link alignment system / Arce, P (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Barcala, J M (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Calvo, E (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Ferrando, A (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Josa, M I (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Molinero, A (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Navarrete, J (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Oller, J C (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Brochero, J (Cantabria U., Santander) ; Calderón, A (Cantabria U., Santander) et al.
The central feature of the CMS Link alignment system is a network of Amorphous Silicon Position Detectors distributed throughout the muon spectrometer that are connected by multiple laser lines. The data collected during the years from 2008 to 2015 is presented confirming an outstanding performance of the photo sensors during more than seven years of operation. [...]

Intra-Train Position and Angle Stabilisation at ATF Based on Sub-Micron Resolution Stripline Beam Position Monitors / Blaskovic Kraljevic, Neven (JAI, UK) ; Bett, Douglas (CERN) ; Bromwich, Talitha (JAI, UK) ; Burrows, Philip (JAI, UK) ; Christian, Glenn (JAI, UK) ; Perry, Colin (JAI, UK) ; Ramjiawan, Rebecca (JAI, UK)
A low-latency, sub-micron resolution stripline beam position monitoring (BPM) system has been developed and tested with beam at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility (ATF2), where it has been used to drive a beam stabilisation system. The fast analogue front-end signal processor is based on a single-stage radio-frequency down-mixer, with a measured latency of 16 ns and a demonstrated single-pass beam position resolution of below 300 nm using a beam with a bunch charge of approximately 1 nC. A system of three low-Q cavity beam position monitors (BPMs), installed in the interaction point (IP) region of the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF2) at KEK, has been designed and optimised for nanometre-level beam position resolution. The BPMs have been used to provide an input to a low-latency, intra-train beam position feedback system consisting of a digital feedback board and a custom stripline kicker with power amplifier.
