The ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider: a description of the detector configuration for Run 3 / ATLAS Collaboration
The ATLAS detector is installed in its experimental cavern at Point 1 of the CERN Large Hadron Collider. During Run 2 of the LHC, a luminosity of $\mathcal{L}=2\times 10^{34}\mathrm{cm}^{-2}\mathrm{s}^{-1}$ was routinely achieved at the start of fills, twice the design luminosity. [...]

Measuring the beam transverse emittance is fundamental in every accelerator, in particular for the LHC, where its precise determination and preservation is essential to maximize the luminosity and thus the performance of the colliding beams. In this contribution, a review of the status of the synchrotron radiation monitors, the beam gas vertex detector and the wirescanners will be presented alongside the assessment of the obtained performance [...]

Earth surface movements, like earthquakes or human-produced (cultural) noise, can induce a degradation of the instantaneous luminosity of particle accelerators or even sudden beam losses. In the same way the presence of seismic and cultural noise limits the detection capabilities of interferometric antennas used for the observations of gravitational waves. [...]

Measuring beam size with the LHC Beam Gas Vertex detector / Würkner, Benedikt (CERN) ; Alexopoulos, Andreas (CERN) ; Barschel, Colin (CERN) ; Bay, Aurelio (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Blanc, Frederic (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Bravin, Enrico (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, Giuseppe (CERN) ; Chritin, Nicolas (CERN) ; Dehning, Bernd (CERN) ; Ferro-Luzzi, Massimiliano (CERN) et al.
The Beam Gas Vertex detector (BGV) is an innovative beam profile monitor being developed as part of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project at CERN. The goal is to continually measure the transverse beam size by reconstructing tracks originating from beam-gas interactions using high precision tracking detectors. [...]

A new instrument is under development for the High Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN (HL-LHC) to provide non-invasive transverse beam size measurements throughout the full acceleration cycle. The Beam Gas Vertex (BGV) monitor consists of a tank supplied with gas at very low pressure attached to the LHC beam pipe with a series of particle tracking stations located downstream outside vacuum. Determination of jet calibration and energy resolution in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV using the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
The jet energy scale, jet energy resolution, and their systematic uncertainties are measured for jets reconstructed with the ATLAS detector in 2012 using proton-proton data produced at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 20 fb$^{-1}$. Jets are reconstructed from clusters of energy depositions in the ATLAS calorimeters using the anti-$k_t$ algorithm. [...]

Measurement of $J/\psi$ production in association with a $W^\pm$ boson with $pp$ data at 8 TeV / ATLAS Collaboration
A measurement of the production of a prompt $J/\psi$ meson in association with a $W^\pm$ boson with $W^\pm \rightarrow \mu\nu$ and $J/\psi \rightarrow \mu^+ \mu^-$ is presented for $J/\psi$ transverse momenta in the range 8.5$-$150 GeV and rapidity $|y_{J/\psi}|<2.1$ using ATLAS data recorded in 2012 at the LHC. The data were taken at a proton-proton centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb$^{-1}$. [...]

The beam-gas vertex (BGV) detector is an innovative instrument measuring noninvasively the transverse beam size in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) using reconstructed tracks from beam-gas interactions. The BGV detector was installed in 2016 as part of the R&D; for the High-Luminosity LHC project. [...]

Observation of electroweak production of a same-sign $W$ boson pair in association with two jets in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV with the ATLAS detector / ATLAS Collaboration
This Letter presents the observation and measurement of electroweak production of a same-sign $W$ boson pair in association with two jets using 36.1 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis is performed in the detector fiducial phase-space region, defined by the presence of two same-sign leptons, electron or muon, and at least two jets with a large invariant mass and rapidity difference.
