Evidence for the onset of deconfinement and quest for the critical point by NA49 at the CERN SPS / NA49 Collaboration
The NA49 results on hadron production obtained in PbPb collisions at SPS energies from 20 to 158 A GeV are shown and discussed as evidence for the onset of deconfinement. The primary measures are the pion yield, the kaon-to-pion ratio and the slope parameter of transverse mass distributions. [...]

Onset of deconfinement and search for the critical point of strongly interacting matter at CERN SPS energies / for the NA49 collaboration
The exploration of the QCD phase diagram particularly the search for a phase transition from hadronic to partonic degrees of freedom and possibly a critical endpoint, is one of the most challenging tasks in present heavy-ion physics. As observed by the NA49 experiment, several hadronic observables in central Pb+Pb collisions at the CERN SPS show qualitative changes in their energy dependence. [...]

System-size and centrality dependence of charged kaon and pion production in nucleus-nucleus collisions at 40A GeV and158A GeV beam energy / NA49 Collaboration
Measurements of charged pion and kaon production are presented in centrality selected Pb+Pb collisions at 40A GeV and 158A GeV beam energy as well as in semi-central C+C and Si+Si interactions at 40A GeV. Transverse mass spectra, rapidity spectra and total yields are determined as a function of centrality. [...]

System size dependence of particle-ratio fluctuations in Pb+Pb collisions at 158$A$ GeV / NA49 collaboration
New measurements by the NA49 experiment of the centrality dependence of event-by-event fluctuations of the particle yield ratios (K$^{+}$+K$^{-}$)/($\pi^{+}+\pi^{-}$), (p+$\bar{\text p}$)/($\pi^{+}+\pi^{-}$), and (K$^{+}$+K$^{-}$)/(p+$\bar{\text p}$) are presented for Pb+Pb collisions at 158$A$ GeV. The absolute values of the dynamical fluctuations of these ratios, quantified by the measure $\sigma_{\text{dyn}}$, increase by about a factor of two from central to semi-peripheral collisions. [...]

Antideuteron and deuteron production in mid-central Pb+Pb collisions at 158$A$ GeV / NA49 collaboration
Production of deuterons and antideuterons was studied by the NA49 experiment in the 23.5% most central Pb+Pb collisions at the top SPS energy of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=17.3 GeV. Invariant yields for $\bar{d}$ and $d$ were measured as a function of centrality in the center-of-mass rapidity range $-1.2<y<-0.6$. [...]

$K^{\ast}(892)^0$ and $\bar{K}^{\ast}(892)^0$ production in central Pb+Pb, Si+Si, C+C and inelastic p+p collisions at 158$A$~GeV / NA49 collaboration
Production of the $K^{\ast}(892)^0$ and $\bar{K}^{\ast}(892)^0$ resonances was studied via their $K^+ \pi^-$ and $K^- \pi^+$ decay modes in central Pb+Pb, Si+Si, C+C and inelastic p+p collisions at 158\agev ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 17.3 GeV) with the NA49 detector at the CERN SPS. Transverse momentum and rapidity distributions were measured and total yields were estimated. [...]

Proton - Lambda Correlations in Central Pb+Pb Collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 17.3 GeV / NA49 Collaboration
The momentum correlation between protons and lambda particles emitted from central Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt(s_{NN}) = 17.3 GeV was studied by the NA49 experiment at the CERN SPS. A clear enhancement is observed for small relative momenta (q_{inv} < 0.2 GeV). [...]

Energy dependence of kaon-to-proton ratio fluctuations in central Pb+Pb collisions from $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 6.3 to 17.3 GeV / NA49 Collaboration
Kaons and protons carry large parts of two conserved quantities, strangeness and baryon number. It is argued that their correlation and thus also fluctuations are sensitive to conditions prevailing at the anticipated parton-hadron phase boundary. [...]

Centrality dependence of proton and antiproton spectra in Pb+Pb collisions at 40A GeV and 158A GeV measured at the CERN SPS / NA49 Collaboration
The yields of (anti-)protons were measured by the NA49 Collaboration in centrality selected Pb+Pb collisions at 40A GeV and 158A GeV. Particle identification was obtained in the laboratory momentum range from 5 to 63 GeV/c by the measurement of the energy loss dE/dx in the TPC detector gas. [...]
