Roadmap toward the 10 ps time-of-flight PET challenge / Lecoq, Paul (CERN) ; Morel, Christian (Marseille, CPPM) ; Prior, John O (Lausanne U.) ; Visvikis, Dimitris (LATIM, Brest) ; Gundacker, Stefan (CERN ; Milan U.) ; Auffray, Etiennette (CERN) ; Križan, Peter (Ljubljana U.) ; Turtos, Rosana Martinez (CERN ; Aarhus U.) ; Thers, Dominique (SUBATECH, Nantes) ; Charbon, Edoardo (Neuchatel U.) et al.
Since the seventies, positron emission tomography (PET) has become an invaluable medical molecular imaging modality with an unprecedented sensitivity at the picomolar level, especially for cancer diagnosis and the monitoring of its response to therapy. More recently, its combination with x-ray computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) has added high precision anatomic information in fused PET/CT and PET/MR images, thus compensating for the modest intrinsic spatial resolution of PET. High-frequency SiPM readout advances measured coincidence time resolution limits in TOF-PET / Gundacker, Stefan (Milan Bicocca U. ; CERN) ; Turtos, Rosana Martinez (CERN) ; Auffray, Etiennette (CERN) ; Paganoni, Marco (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Lecoq, Paul (CERN)
Scintillator based radiation detectors readout by SiPMs successively break records in their reached time resolution. Nevertheless, new challenges in time of flight positron emission tomography (TOF-PET) and high energy physics are setting unmatched goals in the 10 ps range. [...]

On the structure, synthesis, and characterization of ultrafast blue-emitting CsPbBr$_3$ nanoplatelets / Tomanová, Kateřina (Prague, Tech. U.) ; Čuba, Václav (Prague, Tech. U.) ; Brik, Mikhail G (Tartu U. ; Inst. Phys., Czestochowa ; Prague, Inst. Phys.) ; Mihóková, Eva (Prague, Inst. Phys.) ; Turtos, Rosana Martinez (CERN) ; Lecoq, Paul (CERN) ; Auffray, Etiennette (CERN) ; Nikl, Martin (Prague, Inst. Phys.)
Recent developments in medical imaging techniques, in particular, those in time-of-flight positron emission tomography put new challenges on scintillating material performance that cannot be fulfilled by conventional scintillators. Bright and ultrafast nanoparticles represent promising candidates to build up an advanced detection system needed. [...]

Intraband luminescence excited in new ways: Low-power x-ray and electron beams / Omelkov, Sergey I (Tartu U.) ; Nagirnyi, Vitali (Tartu U.) ; Feldbach, Eduard (Tartu U.) ; Turtos, Rosana Martinez (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Auffray, Etiennette (CERN) ; Kirm, Marco (Tartu U.) ; Lecoq, Paul (CERN)
Hot intraband luminescence (IBL) was observed under excitation by high-power (120 keV, 10 A/cm2) pulsed electron beam, low-energy (10 keV) and low-current (2 μA) continuous electron beam as well as pulsed x-rays. Thus, the fundamental possibility of IBL excitation by x-rays was confirmed, and for most studied materials the absence of the dependence of IBL spectral shape on excitation energy was revealed. Preparation and luminescence properties of ZnO:Ga – polystyrene composite scintillator / Burešová, Hana (NUVIA, Czech Republic) ; Procházková, Lenka (Prague, Tech. U.) ; Turtos, Rosana Martinez (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Jarý, Vítězslav (Prague, Inst. Phys.) ; Mihóková, Eva (Prague, Inst. Phys.) ; Beitlerová, Alena (Prague, Inst. Phys.) ; Pjatkan, Radek (NUVIA, Czech Republic) ; Gundacker, Stefan (CERN) ; Auffray, Etiennette (CERN) ; Lecoq, Paul (CERN) et al.
Highly luminescent ZnO:Ga-polystyrene composite (ZnO:Ga-PS) with ultrafast subnanosecond decay was prepared by homogeneous embedding the ZnO:Ga scintillating powder into the scintillating organic matrix. The powder was prepared by photo-induced precipitation with subsequent calcination in air and Ar/H2 atmospheres. [...]
