Investigating the effect of rolling deformation on the electro-mechanical limits of Nb$_{3}$Sn wires produced by RRP$^{®}$ and PIT technologies / Bagni, T (U. Geneva (main) ; Uppsala U.) ; Calzolaio, C (PSI, Villigen) ; Bovone, G (U. Geneva (main)) ; Ferradas-Troitino, J (CERN) ; Barth, C (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Senatore, C (U. Geneva (main))
Future high-field magnets for particle accelerators hinge on the crucial development of advanced Nb$_{3}$Sn wires engineered to withstand the large stresses generated during magnet assembly and operation. The superconducting properties of Nb$_{3}$Sn enable the design of compact accelerator-quality magnets above 10 T, but at the same time the brittleness and strain sensitivity of the material impose careful consideration of the mechanical limits. Planar deposition of Nb thin films by HiPIMS for superconducting radiofrequency applications / Carlos, Carlota P A (CERN ; U. Geneva (main)) ; Leith, Stewart (CERN) ; Rosaz, Guillaume (CERN) ; Pfeiffer, Stephan (CERN) ; Senatore, Carmine (U. Geneva (main))
Cost efficiency and sustainability are critical challenges for future accelerator machines. Nb-coated Cu (Nb/Cu) superconducting radiofrequency (SRF) accelerating cavities, while requiring R&D; to meet high acceleration gradient performance standards, show potential for addressing these challenges. [...]

Magnets for a Muon Collider—Needs and Plans / Bottura, L (CERN) ; Accettura, C (CERN) ; Amemiya, N (Kyoto U.) ; Auchmann, B (PSI, Villigen) ; Berg, J S (Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Bersani, A (INFN, Genoa) ; Bertarelli, A (CERN) ; Boattini, F (CERN) ; Bordini, B (CERN) ; Borges de Sousa, P (CERN) et al.
We describe the magnet challenges for a Muon Collider, an exciting option considered for the future of particle physics at the energy frontier. Starting from the comprehensive work performed by the US Muon Accelerator Program, we have reviewed the performance specifications dictated by beam physics and the operating conditions to satisfy the accelerator needs. Thickness effect on superconducting properties of niobium films for radio-frequency cavity applications / Bianchi, Antonio (INFN, Milan) ; Bonura, Marco (U. Geneva (main)) ; Carlos, Carlota P.A. (U. Geneva (main) ; CERN) ; Leith, Stewart (CERN) ; Rosaz, Guillaume (CERN) ; Senatore, Carmine (U. Geneva (main)) ; Venturini Delsolaro, Walter (CERN)
Niobium-coated copper radio-frequency cavities are cost-effective alternatives to bulk niobium cavities, given the lower material costs of copper substrates and their operation in liquid helium at around 4.2 K. However, these cavities historically exhibited a gradual degradation in performance with the accelerating field. [...]

X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy to Investigate Precipitated Oxides in Nb3Sn Wires With an Internal Oxygen Source / Bovone, G (Geneva U.) ; Buta, F (Geneva U.) ; Lonardo, F (Geneva U.) ; Bonura, M (Geneva U.) ; Borca, C N (PSI, Villigen) ; Huthwelker, T (PSI, Villigen) ; Hopkins, S C (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Boutboul, T (CERN) ; Senatore, C (Geneva U.)
Internal oxidation can achieve significantly enhanced Jcin Nb3Sn wires, but the mechanism of oxygen transport and oxide precipitation is not fully understood. Our investigation employs X-ray Absorption Near-Edge Structure (XANES) spectroscopy, revealing insights into the oxidation of Zr and its interaction with oxygen in different areas of the wire cross section. Conceptual Design of an HTS Canted Cosine Theta Dipole Magnet for Research and Hadron Therapy Accelerators / De Matteis, E (INFN, Milan) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Barna, D (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Carloni, A (INFN, Milan) ; Echeandia, A (Elytt, Madrid) ; Kirby, G (CERN) ; Lecrevisse, T (Saclay) ; Lucas, J (Elytt, Madrid) ; Mariotto, S (INFN, Milan) ; van Nugteren, J et al.
The European project IFAST's WP8 Innovative Superconducting Magnets aims to develop the technology of Canted Cosine Theta (CCT) magnets wound with High-Temperature Superconductors (HTS). Superconducting magnets could lower the size and cost of synchrotrons and gantries for research and hadron therapy. [...]

Influence of the Heat Treatment on the Layer JC of Internal-Sn Nb3Sn Wires With Internally Oxidized Nanoparticles / Lonardo, F (Geneva U.) ; Bovone, G (Geneva U.) ; Buta, F (Geneva U.) ; Bonura, M (Geneva U.) ; Bagni, T (Geneva U. ; Uppsala U.) ; Medina-Clavijo, B (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Hopkins, S C (CERN) ; Boutboul, T (CERN) ; Senatore, C (Geneva U.)
We evaluated various heat treatments (HT) for maximizing the Nb3Sn layer thickness while retaining a refined grain microstructure in low filament count internal-Sn Nb3Sn Rod-In-Tube wires with internally oxidized nanoparticles. These wires were manufactured in our laboratory using SnO2as oxygen source and Nb alloys containing Ta and Zr or Hf. [...]

The damage mechanisms and limits of superconducting accelerator magnets caused by the impact of high-intensity particle beams have been the subject of extensive studies at CERN in the recent years. Recently, an experiment with dedicated racetrack coils made of Nb-Ti and Nb$_3$Sn strands was performed in CERN’s HiRadMat facility. [...]
