A New Boson with a Mass of 125 GeV Observed with the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider / CMS Collaboration
The Higgs boson was postulated nearly five decades ago within the framework of the standard model of particle physics and has been the subject of numerous searches at accelerators around the world. Its discovery would verify the existence of a complex scalar field thought to give mass to three of the carriers of the electroweak force—the W+, W–, and Z0 bosons—as well as to the fundamental quarks and leptons. Observation of a new boson at a mass of 125 GeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC / CMS Collaboration
Results are presented from searches for the standard model Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 and 8 TeV in the CMS experiment at the LHC, using data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at 7 TeV and 5.3 inverse femtobarns at 8 TeV. The search is performed in five decay modes: $\gamma\gamma$, ZZ, WW, $\tau^+ \tau^-$, and $b\bar{b}$. [...]

Front-end electronics for the cathode strip readout of the CMS endcap muon system / Breedon, R E (UC, Davis) ; Holbrook, B (UC, Davis) ; Hoy, K G (UC, Davis) ; Ko, Winston (UC, Davis) ; Lin, (UC, Davis) ; Thanh, C (Ohio State U.) ; Acosta, D (Ohio State U.) ; Bylsma, B (Ohio State U.) ; Durkin, L S (Ohio State U.) ; Hoftiezer, J (Ohio State U.) et al.
The operation of the cathode front-end electronics for the endcap muon system of CMS is described. The front-end circuitry is partially incorporated into ASICs; the progress of those chips under development for reading out the precise position measurement ( preamp/shaper, readout controller and switched capacitor array) is reported..
