Thorium Energy for the World - ThEC13   27 - 31 Oct 2013  - Geneva, Switzerland  / Revol, Jean-Pierre (ed.) (CERN); Bourquin, Maurice (ed.) (Geneva U.); Kadi, Yacine (ed.) (CERN); Lillestol, Egil (ed.); De Mestral, Jean-Christophe (ed.); Samec, Karel (ed.)
The Thorium Energy Conference (ThEC13) gathered some of the world’s leading experts on thorium technologies to review the possibility of destroying nuclear waste in the short term, and replacing the uranium fuel cycle in nuclear systems with the thorium fuel cycle in the long term. The latter would provide abundant, reliable and safe energy with no CO2 production, no air pollution, and minimal waste production. [...]

A spallation-based irradiation test facility for fusion and future fission materials / Samec, K (CERN) ; Fusco, Y (CERN) ; Kadi, Y (CERN) ; Luis, R (CERN) ; Romanets, Y (CERN) ; Behzad, M (Sungkyunkwan U., Seoul) ; Aleksan, R (Paris, CEA) ; Bousson, S (CNRS, France ; Paris, IN2P3)
The EU’s FP7 TIARA program for developing accelerator-based facilities has recently demonstrated the unique capabilities of a compact and powerful spallation source for irradiating advanced nuclear materials. The spectrum and intensity of the neutron flux produced in the proposed facility fulfils the requirements of the DEMO fusion reactor for ITER, ADS reactors and also Gen III / IV reactors. [...]

Measurement and analysis of turbulent liquid metal flow in a high-power spallation neutron source-EURISOL / Samec, K (CERN) ; Kadi, Y (Sungkyunkwan U. ; CERN) ; Blumenfeld, L (CERN) ; Kharoua, C (CERN) ; Dementjevs, S (PSI, Villigen) ; Milenkovic, R Z (PSI, Villigen)
The European Isotope Separation On-Line (EURISOL) design study completed in 2009 examined means of producing exotic nuclei for fundamental research. One of the critical components identified in the study was a high-power neutron spallation source in which a target material is impacted by a proton beam producing neutrons by a process known as spallation.
