The European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden will become the world's most powerful thermal neutron source. The Macromolecular Diffractometer (NMX) at the ESS requires three 51.2 x 51.2~cm$^{2}$ detectors with reasonable detection efficiency, sub-mm spatial resolution, a narrow point spread function (PSF) and good time resolution. [...]

First measurements with new high-resolution gadolinium-GEM neutron detectors / Pfeiffer, Dorothea (ESS, Lund ; CERN) ; Resnati, Filippo (ESS, Lund ; CERN) ; Birch, Jens (Linkoping U.) ; Etxegarai, Maddi (ESS, Lund) ; Hall-Wilton, Richard (ESS, Lund) ; Höglund, Carina (ESS, Lund) ; Hultman, Lars (Mid Sweden U., Sundsvall) ; Llamas-Jansa, Isabel (ESS, Lund) ; Oliveri, Eraldo (CERN) ; Oksanen, Esko (ESS, Lund) et al.
European Spallation Source instruments like the macromolecular diffractometer, NMX, require an excellent neutron detection efficiency, high-rate capabilities, time resolution, and an unprecedented spatial resolution in the order of a few hundred micrometers over a wide angular range of the incoming neutrons. For these instruments solid converters in combination with Micro Pattern Gaseous Detectors (MPGDs) are a promising option. [...]

The $\mu$TPC Method: Improving the Position Resolution of Neutron Detectors Based on MPGDs / Pfeiffer, D. (ESS, Lund ; CERN) ; Resnati, F. (ESS, Lund ; CERN) ; Birch, J. (Linkoping U.) ; Hall-Wilton, R. (ESS, Lund ; Mid Sweden U., Sundsvall) ; Höglund, C. (ESS, Lund ; Linkoping U.) ; Hultman, L. (Mid Sweden U., Sundsvall) ; Iakovidis, G. (CERN ; Brookhaven Natl. Lab.) ; Oliveri, E. (CERN) ; Oksanen, E. (ESS, Lund) ; Ropelewski, L. (CERN) et al.
Due to the Helium-3 crisis, alternatives to the standard neutron detection techniques are becoming urgent. In addition, the instruments of the European Spallation Source (ESS) require advances in the state of the art of neutron detection. [...]
