Measurement of the Permanent Electric Dipole Moment of the Neutron / Abel, C. (Sussex U.) ; Afach, S. (PSI, Villigen ; Zurich, ETH) ; Ayres, N.J. (Sussex U. ; Zurich, ETH) ; Baker, C.A. (Rutherford) ; Ban, G. (Caen U.) ; Bison, G. (PSI, Villigen) ; Bodek, K. (Jagiellonian U.) ; Bondar, V. (PSI, Villigen ; Zurich, ETH ; Leuven U.) ; Burghoff, M. (Berlin, Phys. Tech. We present the result of an experiment to measure the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the neutron at the Paul Scherrer Institute using Ramsey's method of separated oscillating magnetic fields with ultracold neutrons (UCN). Our measurement stands in the long history of EDM experiments probing physics violating time reversal invariance. [...]

Optically pumped Cs magnetometers enabling a high-sensitivity search for the neutron electric dipole moment / Abel, C. (Sussex U.) ; Afach, S. (PSI, Villigen ; Zurich, ETH) ; Ayres, N.J. Bern, AEC) ; Chiu, P.-J (PSI, Villigen ; Zurich, ETH) ; Crawford, C.B. (Kentucky U.) et al.
An array of sixteen laser-pumped scalar Cs magnetometers was part of the neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) experiment taking data at the Paul Scherrer Institute in 2015 and 2016. It was deployed to measure the gradients of the experiment's magnetic field and to monitor their temporal evolution. [...]

Psychological bias towards, or away from, a prior measurement or a theory prediction is an intrinsic threat to any data analysis. While various methods can be used to avoid the bias, e.g. [...]

New physics searches in nuclear and neutron $\beta$ decay / González-Alonso, Martin (CERN) ; Naviliat-Cuncic, Oscar (Michigan State U., NSCL ; Michigan State U.) ; Severijns, Nathal (Leuven U.)
The status of tests of the standard electroweak model and of searches for new physics in allowed nuclear $\beta$ decay and neutron decay is reviewed including both theoretical and experimental developments. The sensitivity and complementarity of recent and ongoing experiments are discussed with emphasis on their potential to look for new physics. [...]

A Revised Experimental Upper Limit on the Electric Dipole Moment of the Neutron / Pendlebury, J  M (Sussex U.) ; Afach, S (PSI, Villigen ; Zurich, ETH) ; Ayres, N J (Sussex U.) ; Baker, C A (Rutherford) ; Ban, G (Caen U.) ; Bison, G (PSI, Villigen) ; Bodek, K (Jagiellonian U) ; Burghoff, M (Berlin, Phys. Tech. Bund.) ; Geltenbort, P (Laue-Langevin Inst.) ; Green, K (Guelph U. ; Rutherford) et al.
We present for the first time a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the experimental results that set the current world sensitivity limit on the magnitude of the electric dipole moment (EDM) of the neutron. We have extended and enhanced our earlier analysis to include recent developments in the understanding of the effects of gravity in depolarizing ultracold neutrons (UCN); an improved calculation of the spectrum of the neutrons; and conservative estimates of other possible systematic errors, which are also shown to be consistent with more recent measurements undertaken with the apparatus. A new and independent determination of the Gamow-Teller branching ratio in the beta-decay of 21Na is reported. The value obtained of 5.13 +- 0.43 % is in agreement with the currently adopted value and the most recent measurement. [...]

The transport and cooling of noble gas singly-charged ion beams by means of a Radio Frequency Quadrupole Cooler Buncher (RFQCB) have been studied at the LIMBE low energy beam line of the GANIL facility. Ions as light as $^{4}He^+$ have been cooled and stored before their extraction in bunches using $H_2$ as buffer gas. [...]
