Axion-electron decoupling in nucleophobic axion models / Björkeroth, Fredrik (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Di Luzio, Luca (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Mescia, Federico (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Nardi, Enrico (LNF, Dafne Light) ; Panci, Paolo (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U. ; CERN ; Gran Sasso) ; Ziegler, Robert (CERN)
The strongest upper bounds on the axion mass come from astrophysical observations like the neutrino burst duration of SN1987A, which depends on the axion couplings to nucleons, or the white-dwarf cooling rates and red-giant evolution, which involve the axion-electron coupling. It has been recently argued that in variants of DFSZ models with generation-dependent Peccei-Quinn charges an approximate axion-nucleon decoupling can occur, strongly relaxing the SN1987A bound. Astrophobic Axions / Di Luzio, Luca (Durham U., IPPP) ; Mescia, Federico (ICC, Barcelona U.) ; Nardi, Enrico (Frascati) ; Panci, Paolo (CERN) ; Ziegler, Robert (CERN)
We propose a class of axion models with generation dependent Peccei-Quinn charges for the known fermions that allow to suppress the axion couplings to nucleons and electrons. Astrophysical limits are thus relaxed, allowing for axion masses up to ${\cal O}(0.1)$ eV. [...]

Limits on neutrino mixing with new heavy particles / Nardi, Enrico (Michigan U.) ; Roulet, Esteban (CERN) ; Tommasini, Daniele (Valencia U.)
We study the effects induced by new neutral fermions below their mass threshold, due to their possible mixing with the standard neutrinos. We use as experimental constraints the recent results on lepton universality, together with the measurement of the $\mu$ decay rate and the updated LEP data. [...]

Pulsar acceleration by asymmetric emission of sterile neutrinos / Nardi, Enrico (CERN ; Antioquia U.) ; Zuluaga, Jorge I. (Antioquia U.)
A convincing explanation for the observed pulsar large peculiar velocities is still missing. We argue that any viable particle physics solution would most likely involve the resonant production of a non-interacting neutrino $\nu_s$ of mass $m_{\nu_s}\sim$ 20--50 keV. [...]

New neutral gauge bosons and new heavy fermions in the light of the new LEP data / Nardi, Enrico (Michigan U.) ; Roulet, Esteban (CERN) ; Tommasini, Daniele (CERN)
We derive limits on a class of new physics effects that are naturally present in grand unified theories based on extended gauge groups, and in particular in $E_6$ and SO(10) models. We concentrate on $i$) the effects of the mixing of a new neutral gauge bosons with the standard $Z_0$; $ii$) the effects of a mixing of the known fermions with new heavy states. [...]
