The Diamond Beam Loss Monitoring System at CERN LHC and SPS / Calvo Giraldo, Eva (CERN) ; Effinger, Ewald (CERN) ; Gonzalez Berges, Manuel (CERN) ; Kral, Jiri (Prague, Tech. U.) ; Martínez Samblas, Javier (CERN) ; Morales Vigo, Sara (CERN) ; Salvachúa, Belen (CERN) ; Zamantzas, Christos (CERN)
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) accelerators are equipped with 17 pCVD diamond based Beam Loss detectors at strategical locations where their nanosecond resolution can provide insights into the loss mechanisms and complement the information of the standard ionization chamber type detectors. They are used at the injection and extraction lines of the LHC and SPS, to analyse the injection or extraction efficiency, and to verify the timing alignment of other elements like kicker magnets. Performance of the ALICE Electromagnetic Calorimeter / ALICE Collaboration
The performance of the electromagnetic calorimeter of the ALICE experiment during operation in 2010$-$2018 at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. After a short introduction into the design, readout, and trigger capabilities of the detector, the procedures for data taking, reconstruction, and validation are explained. [...]

This papers reviews the implemented improvements, operational experience, and performance reach of the major LHC Beam Instrumentation systems, excluding transverse beam profile diagnostics, throughout the LHC Run 2. The major hardware and software changes since the Long Shutdown 1 (LS1) are highlighted and the main actions addressing the remaining open issues during the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2) are listed. [...]

Dynamics of the interaction of dust particles with the LHC beam / Lindstrom, B (CERN ; Uppsala U.) ; Bélanger, P (CERN ; TRIUMF) ; Gorzawski, A (CERN ; Malta U.) ; Kral, J (CERN ; Prague, Tech. Micrometer-sized dust particles present in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) beam pipe are believed to have caused many thousands of sporadic beam loss events around the LHC. These so-called unidentified falling objects (UFOs) have been under continuous study since the start of high intensity beam operation in the LHC due to their impact on the LHC availability: 139 beam dumps and 12 magnet quenches during Run II (2015–2018) alone. A Multipurpose Scintillating Fibre Beam Monitor for the Measurement of Secondary Beams at CERN / Ortega Ruiz, Inaki (CERN) ; Fosse, Loic (CERN) ; Franchi, Jonathan (CERN) ; Frassier, Alexandre (CERN) ; Fullerton, John (CERN) ; Kral, Jiri (CERN) ; Lauener, Joel (CERN) ; Schneider, Thomas (CERN) ; Spanggaard, Jens (CERN) ; Tranquille, Gerard (CERN)
A scintillating fibre beam monitor has been developed at CERN for the measurement of low energy and low intensity secondary beams. This monitor can track the passage of individual particles up to intensities of 10⁷ particles per second per mm², over an active area of 20 cm x 20 cm, and with a spatial resolution of 1 mm. [...]

The Beam Instrumentation group at CERN has developed a new scintillating fibre beam monitor for the measurement of secondary particle beams in the CERN Experimental Areas. The monitor has a simple design that stands out for its low material budget, vacuum compatibility, good performance, low cost, and ease of production. [...]

Upgrade of the LHC Bunch by Bunch Intensity Measurement Acquisition System / Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Esperante Pereira, Daniel (CERN) ; Kral, Jiri (CERN) ; Pedersen, Stephane (CERN)
The fast beam intensity measurement systems for the LHC currently use an analogue signal processing chain to provide the charge information for individual bunches. This limits the possibility to use higher level correction algorithms to remove systematic measurement errors coming from the beam current transformer and the associated analogue electronics chain. [...]

Study of cosmic ray events with high muon multiplicity using the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider / ALICE Collaboration
ALICE is one of four large experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, specially designed to study particle production in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Located 52 meters underground with 28 meters of overburden rock, it has also been used to detect muons produced by cosmic ray interactions in the upper atmosphere. [...]

Centrality dependence of pion freeze-out radii in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{\mathbf{s_{NN}}}$=2.76 TeV / ALICE Collaboration
We report on the measurement of freeze-out radii for pairs of identical-charge pions measured in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV as a function of collision centrality and the average transverse momentum of the pair $k_{\rm T}$. Three-dimensional sizes of the system (femtoscopic radii), as well as direction-averaged one-dimensional radii are extracted. [...]
