A New Boson with a Mass of 125 GeV Observed with the CMS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider / CMS Collaboration
The Higgs boson was postulated nearly five decades ago within the framework of the standard model of particle physics and has been the subject of numerous searches at accelerators around the world. Its discovery would verify the existence of a complex scalar field thought to give mass to three of the carriers of the electroweak force—the W+, W–, and Z0 bosons—as well as to the fundamental quarks and leptons. [...]

Observation of a new boson at a mass of 125 GeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC / CMS Collaboration
Results are presented from searches for the standard model Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 and 8 TeV in the CMS experiment at the LHC, using data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at 7 TeV and 5.3 inverse femtobarns at 8 TeV. The search is performed in five decay modes: $\gamma\gamma$, ZZ, WW, $\tau^+ \tau^-$, and $b\bar{b}$. [...]

Track Reconstruction with Cosmic Ray Data at the Tracker Integration Facility / CMS Collaboration
The subsystems of the CMS silicon strip tracker were integrated and commissioned at the Tracker Integration Facility (TIF) in the period from November 2006 to July 2007. As part of the commissioning, large samples of cosmic ray data were recorded under various running conditions in the absence of a magnetic field. [...]

Integration of the End Cap TEC+ of the CMS Silicon Strip Tracker / Tracker End Cap Collaboration
The silicon strip tracker of the CMS experiment has been completed and inserted into the CMS detector in late 2007. The largest sub-system of the tracker is its end cap system, comprising two large end caps (TEC) each containing 3200 silicon strip modules. [...]

Reception Test of Petals for the End Cap TEC+ of the CMS Silicon Strip Tracker / Tracker End Cap Collaboration
The silicon strip tracker of the CMS experiment has been completed and was inserted into the CMS detector in late 2007. The largest sub system of the tracker are its end caps, comprising two large end caps (TEC) each containing 3200 silicon strip modules [...]

Petal Integration for the CMS Tracker End Caps / Bergauer, Thomas ; Dragicevic, Marko ; Friedl, Markus ; Hansel, S ; Hrubec, Josef ; Krammer, Manfred ; Pernicka, Manfred ; Beaumont, Willem ; De Wolf, Eddi A ; Bouhali, Othmane et al.
This note describes the assembly and testing of the 292 petals built for the CMS Tracker End Caps from the beginning of 2005 until the summer of 2006. Due to the large number of petals to be assembled and the need to reach a throughput of 10 to 15 petals per week, a distributed integration approach was chosen. [...]

Heavy Ion Physics in CMS / Baur, G ; Bedjidian, Marc ; Chatrchyan, Serguei ; Contardo, Didier ; Damgov, Jordan ; De Min, Alberto ; Denegri, Daniel ; Drapier, Olivier ; Geist, Walter ; Genchev, Vladimir et al.
This note summarizes the CMS potential for Heavy Ions Collisions studies. The main physics topic is the study of Y to muon pair decays in view of Y family supression studies, with a detailed discussion of muon reconstruction efficiencies and purities in conditions of central Pb-Pb collisions. [...]

Radiation Hardness Study with Small Gap Chambers of 5 and 9 cm Strips. / Bouvet, David (IPN Lyon, France) ; Chorowicz, Valérie (IPN Lyon, France) ; Contardo, Didier (IPN Lyon, France) ; Haroutunian, Roger (IPN Lyon, France) ; Mirabito, Laurent (IPN Lyon, France) ; Smadja, Gérard (IPN Lyon, France)
Small Gap Chambers of 5 and 9 cm strips were exposed to a 5 kHz/mm2 pion beam of 300 MeV in the piM1 area at the PSI. We present the discharge rates and the strip failures measured at different voltages [...]

Proposal for the Read-out Electronics of Gas Micro-Strip Detectors in the CMS Tracker / Clergeau, Jean-François (INP, Lyon, France) ; Chorowicz, Valérie (INP, Lyon, France) ; Contardo, Didier (INP, Lyon, France) ; Haroutunian, Roger (INP, Lyon, France) ; Mirabito, Laurent (INP, Lyon, France) ; Muanza, G S (INP, Lyon, France) ; Smadja, Gérard (INP, Lyon, France)
The signal of minimum ionizing particles, crossing perpendicular MSGC's at LHC frequency, was simulated to propose a suitable read-out sheme for the gas micro-strip detectors of the CMS tracker..

Assembly of a Closed Module of 4 MSGC for the CMS Forward Tracker / Ageron, Michel (Lyon, IPN) ; Bon, Didier (Lyon, IPN) ; Chorowicz, Valérie (Lyon, IPN) ; Contardo, Didier (Lyon, IPN) ; Guillot, Gérard (Lyon, IPN) ; Haroutunian, Roger (Lyon, IPN) ; Mabo, Jean-Claude (Lyon, IPN) ; Miguet, Michel (Lyon, IPN) ; Mirabiro, L (Lyon, IPN) ; Muanza, G S (Lyon, IPN) et al.
The design of a MSGC module with a single gas volume and with the read-out electronics outside, allows a clean and fast assembly. It is well adapted to the large number of units which must be produced for the CMS forward tracker. [...]
