A 230 MeV proton LINAC system for medical applications is being developed and commissioned for the LIGHT (Linac Image Guided Hadron Therapy) project by AVO-ADAM. The LINAC system consists of a 750 MHz RFQ (Radio frequency quadrupole) for the low energy proton acceleration, 2998 MHz SCDTL (Side Coupled Drift Tube Linacs) for the medium energy and 2998 MHz CCL (Coupled Cavity Linacs) for the high energy. From aerodynamics towards aeroacoustics: a novel natural velocity decomposition for the Navier-Stokes equations / Morino, Luigi (Rome III U.) ; Gradassi, Paolo (CERN)
A novel formulation for the analysis of viscous incompressible and compressible aerodynamics/aeroacoustics fields is presented. The paper is primarily of a theoretical nature, and presents the transition path from aerodynamics towards aeroacoustics. [...]

Updated Simulation Studies of Damage Limit of LHC Tertiary Collimators / Quaranta, Elena (CERN) ; Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Cerutti, Francesco (CERN) ; Gradassi, Paolo (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Skordis, Eleftherios (CERN)
The tertiary collimators (TCTs) in the LHC, installed in front of the experiments, in standard operation intercept fractions of 10−3 halo particles. However, they risk to be hit by high-intensity primary beams in case of asynchronous beam dump. [...]

Novel Materials for Collimators at LHC and its Upgrades / Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Dallocchio, Alessandro (CERN) ; Garlasche, Marco (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Gradassi, Paolo (CERN) ; Guinchard, Michael (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Rossi, Adriana (CERN) ; Sacristan De Frutos, Oscar (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN ; Turin Polytechnic) et al.
Collimators for last-generation particle accelerators like the LHC, must be designed to withstand the close interaction with intense and energetic particle beams, safely operating over an extended range of temperatures in harsh environments, while minimizing the perturbing effects, such as instabilities induced by RF impedance, on the circulating beam. The choice of materials for collimator active components is of paramount importance to meet these requirements, which are to become even more demanding with the increase of machine performances expected in future upgrades, such as the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC).
