High precision particle astrophysics as a new window on the universe with an Antimatter Large Acceptance Detector In Orbit (ALADInO) / Battiston, R (Trento U. ; TIFPA-INFN, Trento) ; Bertucci, B (Perugia U. ; INFN, Perugia) ; Adriani, O (Florence U. ; INFN, Florence) ; Ambrosi, G (INFN, Perugia) ; Baoudoy, B (IRFU, Saclay) ; Blasi, P (GSSI, Aquila) ; Boezio, M (INFN, Trieste) ; Campana, D (INFN, Naples) ; Derome, L (LPSC, Grenoble) ; De Mitri, I (GSSI, Aquila) et al.
Multimessenger astrophysics is based on the detection, with the highest possible accuracy, of the cosmic radiation. During the last 20 years, the advent space-borne magnetic spectrometers in space (AMS-01, Pamela, AMS-02), able to measure the charged cosmic radiation separating matter from antimatter, and to provide accurate measurement of the rarest components of Cosmic Rays (CRs) to the highest possible energies, have become possible, together with the ultra-precise measurement of ordinary CRs. CALOCUBE: an approach to high-granularity and homogenous calorimetry for space based detectors / Bongi, M (Florence U. ; INFN, Florence) ; Adriani, O (Florence U. ; INFN, Florence) ; Albergo, S (Catania U. ; INFN, Catania) ; Auditore, L (Messina U. ; INFN, Messina) ; Bagliesi, M G (Siena U. ; INFN, Siena) ; Berti, E (Florence U. ; INFN, Florence) ; Bigongiari, G (Siena U. ; INFN, Siena) ; Boezio, M (INFN, Trieste) ; Bonechi, L (INFN, Florence) ; Bonechi, S (Siena U. ; INFN, Siena) et al.
Future space experiments dedicated to the observation of high-energy gamma and cosmic rays will increasingly rely on a highly performing calorimetry apparatus, and their physics performance will be primarily determined by the geometrical dimensions and the energy resolution of the calorimeter deployed. Thus it is extremely important to optimize its geometrical acceptance, the granularity, and its absorption depth for the measurement of the particle energy with respect to the total mass of the apparatus which is the most important constraint for a space launch. The Science and First Results of the PAMELA Space Mission / Mirko Boezio (speaker) (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN))
On the 15th of June 2006 the PAMELA satellite-borne experiment was launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome and it is collecting data since July 2006. The core of the instrument is a silicon-microstrip magnetic spectrometer combined with a time-of-flight system, a silicon-tungsten electromagnetic calorimeter, a shower tail catcher scintillator, a neutron detector and an anticoincidence system [...]

A RICH counter using a gas radiator of C/sub 4/F/sub 10/ and a photosensitive MWPC with pad readout has been developed, tested in particle beam at CERN and used in the CAPRICE98 balloon-borne experiment. The MWPC was operated with a TMAE and ethane mixture at atmospheric pressure and used a cathode pad plane to give an unambiguous image of the Cherenkov light. [...]
