Xsuite: an integrated beam physics simulation framework
/ Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Abramov, Andrey (CERN) ; Montanari, Carlo Emilio (CERN) ; Droin, Colas (CERN) ; Di Croce, Davide (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Demetriadou, Despina (CERN) ; Soubelet, Felix (CERN) ; Van der Veken, Frederik (CERN) ; Sterbini, Guido (CERN) et al.
Xsuite is a modular simulation package bringing to a single flexible and modern framework capabilities of different tools developed at CERN in the past decades notably MAD-X Sixtrack Sixtracklib COMBI and PyHEADTAIL. The suite consists of a set of Python modules (Xobjects, Xpart, Xtrack, Xcoll, Xfields, Xdeps) that can be flexibly combined together and with other accelerator-specific and general-purpose python tools to study complex simulation scenarios. Updated analysis of beam halo measurements in LHC Run 2 and Run 3
/ Rakic, Milica (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; CERN) ; Salvachua, Belen (CERN) ; Montanari, Carlo Emilio (Manchester U. ; CERN) ; Mirarchi, Daniele (CERN) ; Paraschou, Konstantinos (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Hermes, Pascal (CERN) ; Morales Vigo, Sara (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN)
Measurements of the transverse beam halo in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) provide crucial input for the performance evaluation of the collimation configuration in the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) era. Such measurements are carried out in various phases of the LHC operational cycle by scraping the beam with movable collimators. [...]

Collimator Scan Based Beam Halo Measurements in LHC and HL-LHC
/ Hermes, Pascal (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Montanari, Carlo Emilio (CERN ; U. Manchester (main)) ; Morales Vigo, Sara (CERN ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Rakic, Milica (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Salvachúa, Belen (CERN)
Measurements in the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have indicated that the population of the transverse beam halo is greater than that of a Gaussian distribution. With the upcoming High Luminosity upgrade (HL-LHC), the stored beam energy in the beam halo could become large enough to threaten the integrity of the collimation system. [...]

Collimation quench test at the LHC with a 6.8 TeV proton beam
/ Hermes, P (CERN) ; Abramov, A (CERN) ; Bruce, R (CERN) ; Calzolari, D (CERN) ; D'Andrea, M (CERN) ; Esposito, L (CERN) ; Giovannozzi, M (CERN) ; Hernalsteens, C (CERN) ; Humann, B (CERN) ; Lechner, A (CERN) et al.
The High Luminosity upgrade of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) aims to achieve stored beam energies of 680 MJ. One possible limit to the achievable intensity is the quench limit of the superconducting magnets downstream of the betatron collimation insertion. [...]

Recent measurements and analyses of the beam-halo dynamics at the CERN LHC using collimator scans
/ Montanari, C E (Bologna U. ; CERN) ; Bazzani, A (Bologna U.) ; Giovannozzi, M (CERN) ; Hermes, P (CERN) ; Redaelli, S (CERN)
Controlling beam losses is of paramount importance in superconducting particle accelerators, mainly for ensuring optimal machine performance and an efficient operation. Models based on global diffusion processes, in which the form of the diffusion coefficient is the stability-time estimate of the Nekhoroshev theorem, have been studied and proposed to investigate the beam-halo dynamics. Testing the Global Diffusive Behaviour of Beam-Halo Dynamics at the CERN LHC Using Collimator Scans
/ Montanari, Carlo Emilio (Bologna U.) ; Bazzani, Armando (Bologna U.) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Gorzawski, Arkadiusz (Lund U.) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN)
In superconducting circular particle accelerators, controlling beam losses is of paramount importance for ensuring optimal machine performance and an efficient operation. To achieve the required level of understanding of the mechanisms underlying beam losses, models based on global diffusion processes have recently been studied and proposed to investigate the beam-halo dynamics.
