QCD challenges from pp to AA collisions: 4th edition / Altmann, Javira (Monash U.) ; Andres, Carlota (Ecole Polytechnique, CPHT) ; Andronic, Anton (Munster U., ITP) ; Antinori, Federico (INFN, Padua) ; Antonioli, Pietro (INFN, Bologna ; Bologna U.) ; Beraudo, Andrea (INFN, Turin) ; Berti, Eugenio (INFN, Florence) ; Bianchi, Livio (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) ; Boettcher, Thomas (Cincinnati U.) ; Capriotti, Lorenzo (Ferrara U.) et al.
This paper is a write-up of the ideas that were presented, developed and discussed at the fourth International Workshop on QCD Challenges from pp to AA, which took place in February 2023 in Padua, Italy. The goal of the workshop was to focus on some of the open questions in the field of high-energy heavy-ion physics and to stimulate the formulation of concrete suggestions for making progresses on both the experimental and theoretical sides. Impact of Glasma on heavy quark $R_{AA}$ and $v_2$ in nucleus-nucleus collisions at LHC / Sun, Y (INFN, LNS) ; Coci, G (INFN, LNS ; Catania, CSFNSM ; Catania U.) ; Das, S K (Indian Inst. Tech. Goa) ; Plumari, S (INFN, LNS ; Catania U.) ; Ruggieri, M (Lanzhou U.) ; Greco, V (INFN, LNS ; Catania U.)
We study the effect of the strong quasi-classical gluon field produced in the pre-thermal equilibrium stage of ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions (RHICs) on the evolution of heavy quarks. It is shown that this field leads to an initial enhancement of the nuclear modification factor ($R_{AA}$) of charm quarks at large $p_T$ . [...]

Ballistic diffusion of heavy quarks in the early stage of relativistic heavy ion collisions at RHIC and the LHC / Liu, Jun-Hong (Lanzhou U. (main)) ; Das, Santosh K. (Indian Inst. Tech. Goa) ; Greco, Vincenzo (Catania U. ; INFN, Catania) ; Ruggieri, Marco (Lanzhou U. (main))
We study the diffusion of charm quarks in the early stage of high energy nuclear collisions at the RHIC and the LHC. The main novelty of the present study is the introduction of the color current carried by the heavy quarks that propagate in the evolving Glasma (Ev-Glasma), that is responsible of the energy loss via polarization of the medium. Diffusion of heavy quarks in the early stage of high-energy nuclear collisions at energies available at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and at the CERN Large Hadron Collider / Liu, J.H. (Lanzhou U. ; INFN, LNS) ; Plumari, S. (Catania U. ; INFN, LNS) ; Das, S.K. (Indian Inst. Tech. Goa) ; Greco, V. (INFN, LNS ; Catania U.) ; Ruggieri, M. (Lanzhou U.)
We study the diffusion of charm and beauty in the early stage of high energy nuclear collisions at RHIC and LHC energies, considering the interaction of these heavy quarks with the evolving Glasma by means of the Wong equations. In comparison with previous works, we add the longitudinal expansion as well as we estimate the effect of energy loss due to gluon radiation. [...]

Directed flow of D mesons at RHIC and LHC: non-perturbative dynamics, longitudinal bulk matter asymmetry and electromagnetic fields / Oliva, Lucia (Frankfurt U.) ; Plumari, Salvatore (Catania U. ; INFN, LNS) ; Greco, Vincenzo (Catania U. ; INFN, LNS)
We present a study of the directed flow $v_1$ for $D$ mesons discussing both the impact of initial vorticity and electromagnetic field. Recent studies predicted that $v_1$ for $D$ mesons is expected to be surprisingly much larger than that of light charged hadrons; we clarify that this is due to a different mechanism leading to the formation of a directed flow with respect to the one of the bulk matter at both relativistic and non-relativistic energies. Study of hard and electromagnetic processes at CERN-SPS energies: an investigation of the high-$\mu_{\mathbf{B}}$ region of the QCD phase diagram with NA60+ / NA60+ Collaboration
The exploration of the phase diagram of Quantum ChromoDynamics (QCD) is carried out by studying ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. The energy range covered by the CERN SPS ($\sqrt{s_{\rm \scriptscriptstyle{NN}}} \sim$ 6-17 GeV) is ideal for the investigation of the region of the phase diagram corresponding to finite baryochemical potential ($\mu_{\rm B}$), and has been little explored up to now.
