High voltage consolidation of the temperature measurement channels of the LHC superconducting current leads / Trikoupis, N (CERN) ; Casas-Cubillos, J (CERN) ; Bustamante, E (CERN)
Recurrent dielectric breakdowns on the cryogenics instrumentation during the CERN LHC Electrical Quality Assurance (ELQA) campaigns led to an investigation of their root causes. During the CERN Long Shutdown 2 (LS2), several weaknesses were identified like floating wires or cable screens, cabling non-conformities, connector assembly issues, and weakness of the electronic conditioning cards. Beam induced heat load instrumentation installed in LHC during the Long Shutdown 2 / Bradu, B (CERN) ; Brodzinski, K (CERN) ; Casas-Cubillos, J (CERN) ; Delikaris, D (CERN) ; Deschamps, J B (CERN) ; Le Naour, S (CERN) ; Pezzetti, M (CERN) ; Tavian, L (CERN) ; Tovar, A (CERN) ; Sisti, M (CERN) et al.
During the second run of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) between 2015 and 2018, significant beam induced heat loads have been observed on the beam screens circuits impacting the cryogenic system capacity, mainly due to the electron clouds generated by the beams. To validate these measurements and to obtain precise heat load assessments and comparison with preliminary calculations based on existing hardware equipment at selected locations, it was decided to add new cryogenic instrumentation around the machine. Irradiation Test Results on Cryogenics Electronic Cards using the Smartfusion2 FPGA / Trikoupis, Nikolaos (CERN) ; Casas-Cubillos, Juan (CERN) ; Danzeca, Salvatore (CERN)
In the context of implementing more control and data processing capabilities in new electronic cards at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the Smartfusion2 Flash-based Reprogrammable Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) has been tested in the CHARM radiation facility at CERN. The CHARM facility was configured to offer a representative radiation environment of the CERN's Large Hardon Collider (LHC) accelerator. [...]

Radiation Tolerance of Programmable Voltage Supply and High Galvanic Insulation Readout Electronics Used by CERN's LHC Cryogenics / Casas-Cubillos, Juan (CERN) ; Trikoupis, Nikolaos (CERN) ; Mekki, Julien (CERN)
Two new types of electronic cards have been tested in CERN's CHARM irradiation facility. The cards are a complete redesign of a programmable voltage power supply and a revision of a conditioning card used for resistance temperature sensors. [...]

Final report on the Controlled Cold Helium Spill Test in the LHC tunnel at CERN / Dufay-Chanat, L (CERN) ; Bremer, J (CERN) ; Casas-Cubillos, J (CERN) ; Chorowski, M (Wroclaw Tech. U.) ; Grabowski, M (Wroclaw Tech. U.) ; Jedrusyna, A (Wroclaw Tech. U.) ; Lindell, G (CERN) ; Nonis, M (CERN) ; Koettig, T (CERN) ; Vauthier, N (CERN) et al.
The 27 km circumference LHC underground tunnel is a space in which the helium cooled LHC magnets are installed. The vacuum enclosures of the superconducting magnets are protected by over-pressure safety relief devices that open whenever cold helium escapes either from the magnet cold enclosure or from the helium supply headers, into this vacuum enclosure. [...]

Controlled Cold Helium Spill Test in the LHC Tunnel at CERN / Koettig, T (CERN) ; Casas-Cubillos, J (CERN) ; Chorowski, M (Wroclaw Tech. U.) ; Dufay-Chanat, L (CERN) ; Grabowski, M (Wroclaw Tech. The helium cooled magnets of the LHC particle accelerator are installed in a confined space, formed by a 27 km circumference 3.8 m diameter underground tunnel. The vacuum enclosures of the superconducting LHC magnets are protected by a lift plate against excessive overpressure created by eventual leaks from the magnet helium bath, or from the helium supply headers.
