Acceleration of Electrons in a Diffraction Dominated IFEL
/ Musumeci, Pietro ; Joshi, Chandrashekhar ; Pellegrini, Claudio ; Ralph, J ; Rosenzweig, J B ; Sung, C ; Tochitsky, Sergei Ya ; Travish, Gil
We report on the observation of energy gain in excess of 20 MeV at the Inverse Free Electron Laser Accelerator experiment at the Neptune Laboratory at UCLA. A 14.5 MeV electron beam is injected ina 50 cm long undulator strongly tapered both in period and field amplitude. [...]

VISA IB : Ultra-High Bandwidth, High Gain SASE FEL
/ Andonian, Gerard ; Barkley-Agustsson, Ronald ; Murokh, Alex ; Pellegrini, Claudio ; Reiche, Sven ; Rosenzweig, J B ; Travish, Gil
The results of a high energy-spread SASE FEL experiment, the intermediary experiment linking the VISA I and VISA II projects, are presented. A highly chirped beam (~1.7%) was transported without correction of longitudinal aberrations in the ATF dogleg, and injected into the VISA undulator. [...]

Ultra-High Density Electron Beams for Beam Radiation and Beam Plasma Interaction
/ Anderson, Scott ; Brown, Winthrop ; Frigola, Pedro ; Gibson, David J ; Hartemann, Fred V ; Jacob, Jeremy S ; Lim, Jae ; Musumeci, Pietro ; Rosenzweig, James E ; Travish, Gil et al.
Current and future applications of high brightness electron beams, which include advanced accelerators such as the plasma wake-field accelerator (PWFA) and beam-radiation interactions such as inverse-Compton scattering (ICS), require both transverse and longitudinal beam sizes on the order of tens of microns. Ultra-high density beams may be produced at moderate energy (50 MeV) by compression and subsequent strong focusing of low emittance, photoinjector sources. [...]

Recent Results from and Future Plans for the VISA II SASE FEL
/ Andonian, Gerard ; Agustsson, Ronald ; Babzien, Marcus ; Ben-Zvi, Ilan ; Boscolo, Ilario ; Cialdi, Simone ; Ferrario, Massimo ; Flacco, Alessandro Federico ; Frigola, Pedro ; Huang, Jung Y et al.
As the promise of X-ray Free Electron Lasers (FEL) comes close to realization, the creation and diagnosis of ultra-short pulses is of great relevance in the SASE FEL (Self-Amplified Spontaneous Emission) community. The VISA II (Visible to Infrared SASE Amplifier) experiment entails the use of a chirped electron beam to drive a high gain SASE FEL at the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) in Brookhaven National Labs (BNL). Production of High Harmonic X-Ray Radiation from Non-linear Thomson at LLNL PLEIADES
/ Lim, Jae ; Anderson, Scott ; Betts, Shawn ; Crane, John ; Doyuran, Adnan ; Frigola, Pedro ; Gibson, David J ; Hartemann, Fred V ; Rosenzweig, James E ; Travish, Gil et al.
We describe an experiment for production of high harmonic x-ray radiation from Thomson backscattering of an ultra-short high power density laser by a relativistic electron beam at the PLEIADES facility at LLNL. In this scenario, electrons execute a figure-8 motion under the influence of the high-intensity laser field, where the constant characterizing the field strength is expected to exceed unity: $aL=e*EL/m*c*ωL ≥ 1$.
