Inter-strand resistance and AC loss in resin-filler impregnated ReBCO Roebel cables / Gao, P (Twente U., Enschede ; Southwest Jiaotong U.) ; Dhallé, M (Twente U., Enschede) ; van Nugteren, B (Twente U., Enschede) ; Norder, H (Twente U., Enschede) ; Kario, A (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Otten, S (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Goldacker, W (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; van Nugteren, J (CERN) ; Kirby, G (CERN) ; de Rijk, G (CERN) et al.
In the frame of the EuCARD2 collaboration, aimed at developing the technology for 20 T class accelerator magnets, several demonstrator dipole magnets are being built using high critical current density and fully transposed ReBCO tape-based Roebel-type cables. In accelerator magnets the dynamic magnetic field quality is one of the key parameters, which is affected by the effective inter-strand resistances in the cables. [...]

Double-Disordered HTS-Coated Conductors and Their Assemblies Aimed for Ultra-High Fields: Large Area Tapes / Usoskin, Alexander (Bruker HTS GmbH, Alzenau, Germany) ; Betz, Ulrich (Bruker HTS GmbH, Alzenau, Germany) ; Hofacker, Frank (Bruker HTS GmbH, Alzenau, Germany) ; Rutt, Alexander (Bruker HTS GmbH, Alzenau, Germany) ; Schlenga, Klaus (Bruker HTS GmbH, Alzenau, Germany) ; Prause, Burkhard (Bruker HTS GmbH, Alzenau, Germany) ; Rossi, Lucio (CERN) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Ballarino, Amalia (CERN) ; Senatore, Carmine (Geneva U.) et al.
Double disordered (DD) HTS layers processed via high-fluence PLD with modulated pressure and barium zirconate precipitation yield very high engineering current densities, above 900 and 600 A/mm$^2$ at 18 and 31 T, respectively, measured at 4.2 K and B$\parallel$c. Tape architecture is based on 50-100-μm-thick polished stainless steel tape which prior to DD-HTS deposition was coated with YSZ template yielding a biaxial in-plane texture with FWHM = 10-11° characterized using phi-scan XRD technique. Performance and quench characteristics of a pancake coil wound with the 2G YBCO Roebel cable / Zhang, Qingbo (U. Southampton (main)) ; Yang, Yifeng (U. Southampton (main)) ; Young, Edward (U. Southampton (main)) ; Cavalucci, Lorenzo (U. Bologna (main)) ; Kario, Anna (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Goldacker, Wilfried (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Usoskin, Alexander (Unlisted, DE) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN)
The YBCO Roebel cable is a promising option for the high-energy accelerator magnets and tokamak devices with high-current carrying capability and compactness. Referring to the complex current sharing and normal zone propagation, it is difficult to apply the traditional superconductor quench measurement methodology to such a long Roebel cable (2 m) in an adiabatic condition. Powering of an HTS dipole insert-magnet operated standalone in helium gas between 5 and 85 K / Van Nugteren, J (CERN) ; Kirby, G (CERN) ; Bajas, H (CERN) ; Bajko, M (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Bottura, L (CERN) ; Chiuchiolo, A (CERN) ; Contat, P-A (CERN) ; Dhallé, M (Twente U., Enschede) ; Durante, M (Saclay) et al.
This paper describes the standalone magnet cold testing of the high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet Feather-M2.1-2. This magnet was constructed within the European funded FP7-EUCARD2 collaboration to test a Roebel type HTS cable, and is one of the first high temperature superconducting dipole magnets in the world. The EuCARD2 Future Magnets Program for Particle Accelerator High-Field Dipoles: Review of Results and Next Steps / Rossi, Lucio (CERN) ; Badel, Arnaud (IUT, Grenoble) ; Bajas, Hugues (CERN) ; Bajko, Marta (CERN) ; Ballarino, Amalia (CERN) ; Barth, Christian (Geneva U.) ; Betz, Ulrich (SIS GmbH) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Broggi, Francesco (LASA, Segrate) ; Chiuchiolo, Antonella (CERN) et al.
The EuCARD2 collaboration aims at the development of a 10 kA-class superconducting, high current density cable suitable for accelerator magnets, to be tested in small coils and magnets capable to deliver 3-5 T when energized in stand-alone mode, and 15-18 T when inserted in a 12-13 T background magnet. REBCO tape, assembled in a Roebel cable, was selected as conductor. [...]
