Following the conceptual design, the engineering design of the dc magnet and cable-in-conduit conductor (CICC) for the Super-X test facility has been done in 2021. Totally three types of conductors with different structures were designed for the three pairs of coils in the dc magnet, respectively. [...]

3-D thermal-electric finite element model of a Nb$_3$Sn coil during a quench / Ferradas Troitino, Jose (U. Geneva (main) ; CERN) ; Ambrosio, Giorgio (Fermilab) ; Bajas, Hugo (CERN) ; Bordini, Bernardo (CERN) ; Ferracin, Paolo (CERN) ; Fleiter, Jerome (CERN) ; Izquierdo Bermudez, Susana (CERN) ; Gomez, Jose Vicente Lorenzo (Barcelona Supercomputing Ctr.) ; Perez, Juan Carlos (CERN) ; Vallone, Giorgio (LBNL, Berkeley) et al.
High field superconducting magnets for particle accelerators often exhibit premature quenches. Once a normal zone is generated within the conductor, the quench may propagate causing temperature and resistive voltage rise along the coil. [...]

Tests of the FRESCA2 100 mm bore Nb$_3$Sn block-coil magnet to a record field of 14.6 T / Willering, Gerard (CERN) ; Arnestad, Havard (CERN) ; Bajko, Marta (CERN) ; Bajas, Hugo (CERN) ; Bortot, Lorenzo (CERN) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Bourcey, Nicolas (CERN) ; Duda, Michal (CERN ; Cracow, INP) ; Ferracin, Paolo (CERN) ; Feuvrier, Jerome (CERN) et al.
The Nb$_3$Sn block coil dipole magnet FRESCA2 was developed within the framework of a collaboration between CEA Saclay and CERN, in the continuity of the European project EuCARD and EuCARD2. With an aperture of 100 mm and a target bore field of 13 T at 10.6 kA, the magnet is required for a new FRESCA2 cable test facility at CERN. [...]

Magnetic measurements on the prototype magnets of the high-order correctors for HL-LHC / Fiscarelli, Lucio (CERN) ; Bajas, Hugo (CERN) ; Mangiarotti, Franco (CERN) ; Musso, Andrea (CERN) ; Russenchuck, Stephan (CERN) ; Mariotto, Samuele (LASA, Segrate ; Milan U.) ; Sorbi, Massimo (LASA, Segrate ; Milan U.) ; Statera, Marco (LASA, Segrate)
The National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) is developing, at the Laboratory of Accelerators and Applied Superconductivity (LASA Milan, Italy), five families of corrector magnets, from skew quadrupole up to dodecapole order, which will be installed in the interaction regions of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (LHC). These magnets are based on a superferric design, which allows a relatively simple, compact and easy-to-construct magnets. [...]

This paper presents the analysis of some quench tests addressed to study the dynamic effects in the 1-m-long 120-mm-aperture Nb$_{3}$Sn quadrupole magnet, i.e., HQ02b, designed, fabricated, and tested by the LHC Accelerator Research Program. The magnet has a short sample gradient of 205 T/m at 1.9 K and a peak field of 14.2 T. [...]

Analysis of Uncertainties in Protection Heater Delay Time Measurements and Simulations in Nb$_{3}$Sn High-Field Accelerator Magnets / Salmi, Tiina (Tampere U. of Tech.) ; Chlachidze, Guram (Fermilab) ; Marchevsky, Maxim (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Bajas, Hugo (CERN) ; Felice, Helene (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Stenvall, Antti (Tampere U. of Tech.)
The quench protection of superconducting high-field accelerator magnets is presently based on protection heaters, which are activated upon quench detection to accelerate the quench propagation within the winding. Estimations of the heater delay to initiate a normal zone in the coil are essential for the protection design. [...]

Axial-Field Magnetic Quench Antenna for the Superconducting Accelerator Magnets / Marchevsky, Maxim (LBL, Berkeley) ; Hafalia, Aurelio R (LBL, Berkeley) ; Cheng, Daniel (LBL, Berkeley) ; Prestemon, Soren (LBL, Berkeley) ; Sabbi, Gianluca (LBL, Berkeley) ; Bajas, Hugo (CERN) ; Chlachidze, Guram (Fermilab)
We have developed and tested a novel magnetic inductive antenna for detecting and localizing quenches and flux jumps in superconducting accelerator magnets during ramping and steady-state operations. The antenna principle is based upon sensing temporal variation of the axial field gradient in the magnet bore that is specific to propagating quench. [...]
