Managing physical configurations of CERN accelerators with Layout
/ Le Roux, Pascal (speaker) (CERN)
The Layout platform is comprehensive centralised solution designed to manage the physical configuration of CERN facilities over time.
This platform aims to provide a unified, coherent, and controlled source for functional positions and their layouts by uniquely identifying the components, classifying their functions and core properties, assemblies and connections.
The platform is used across ATS to manage the past, present, and future configurations, accessible with a rich graphical web interface – the Layout UI. Over the last 20 years, Layout has evolved significantly, and now delivers a wide range of features and services used daily by many groups across CERN. [...]

Status and Plans for the Upgrade of the CERN PS Booster
/ Hanke, Klaus (CERN) ; Aguglia, Davide (CERN) ; Angoletta, Maria Elena (CERN) ; Bartmann, Wolfgang (CERN) ; Bedel, Cyrille (CERN) ; Benedetto, Elena (CERN) ; Bertolasi, Stefano (CERN) ; Bertone, Caterina (CERN) ; Betz, Jochen (CERN) ; Birtwistle, Thomas (CERN) et al.
CERN’s Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) is undergoing a major upgrade program in the frame of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project. During the first long LHC shutdown (LS1) some parts of the upgrade have already been implemented, and the machine has been successfully re-commissioned. [...]

Quality Management of CERN Vacuum Controls

The vacuum controls Section (TE-VSC-ICM) is in charge of the monitoring, maintenance and consolidation of the control systems of all accelerators and detectors in CERN; this represents 6 000 instruments distributed along 128 km of vacuum chambers, often of heterogeneous architectures and of diverse technical generations. In order to improve the efficiency of the services provided by ICM, to vacuum experts and to accelerator operators, a Quality Management Plan is being put into place. [...]

Status of the Upgrade of the CERN PS Booster
/ Hanke, K (CERN) ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Angoletta, M (CERN) ; Bartmann, W (CERN) ; Bartolome, S (CERN) ; Benedetto, E (CERN) ; Bertone, C (CERN) ; Blas, A (CERN) ; Bonnal, P (CERN) ; Borburgh, J (CERN) et al.
The CERN PS Booster (PSB) is presently undergoing an ambitious consolidation and upgrade program within the frame of the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project. This program comprises a new injection scheme for H- ions from CERN’s new Linac4, the replacement of the main RF systems and an energy upgrade of the PSB rings from 1.4 to 2 GeV which includes the replacement of the main magnet power supply as well as the upgrade of the extraction equipment. / Alemany-Fernandez, Reyes (CERN) ; Baggiolini, Vito (CERN) ; Gorbonosov, Roman (CERN) ; Khasbulatov, Denis (CERN) ; Lamont, Mike (CERN) ; Le Roux, Pascal (CERN) ; Roderick, Chris (CERN)
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is a highly complex system made of many different sub-systems whose operation implies the execution of many tasks with stringent constraints on the order and duration of the execution. To be able to operate such a system in the most efficient and reliable way, the operators in the CERN control room use a high level control system: the LHC Sequencer. [...]

The proposed CERN Proton-Synchrotron upgrade program
/ Gilardoni, SS (CERN) ; Bart Pedersen, S (CERN) ; Bartmann, W (CERN) ; Bartolome, S (CERN) ; Berrig, O (CERN) ; Bertone, C (CERN) ; Blas, A (CERN) ; Bodart, D (CERN) ; Borburgh, J (CERN) ; Brown, R (CERN) et al.
In the framework of the High-Luminosity LHC project, the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) would require a major upgrade to match the future beam parameters requested as pre-injector of the collider. The different beam dynamics issues, from space-charge limitations to longitudinal instabilities are discussed, as well as the proposed technical solutions to overcome them, covering the increase of the injection energy to RF related improvements..

Study of an energy upgrade of the CERN PS Booster

CERN’s LHC injector chain will have to deliver beams with ultimate brilliance as the LHC is heading for increased luminosity in the coming years. In order to overcome bottlenecks in the injector chain, an increase of the beam transfer energy from the CERN Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) to the Proton Synchrotron (PS) has been investigated as a possible upgrade scenario. First Experience with the LHC Beam Loss Monitoring System

The LHC beam loss monitoring system (BLM) consists of about 4000 monitors observing losses at all quadrupole magnets and many other likely loss locations. At the first LHC operation in August and September 2008 all monitors were active and used to observe the losses during the initial beam steerings, at collimators, at the LHC dump and during aperture scans.
