Quadrupole and octupole collectivity in the semi-magic nucleus 80206Hg126
/ Morrison, L (Surrey U.) ; Hadyńska-Klȩk, K (Warsaw U., Heavy Ion Lab ; Surrey U.) ; Podolyák, Zs (Surrey U.) ; Gaffney, L P (Liverpool U. ; CERN) ; Zielińska, M (IRFU, Saclay) ; Brown, B A (Michigan State U., East Lansing (main)) ; Grawe, H (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Stevenson, P D (Surrey U.) ; Berry, T (Surrey U.) ; Boukhari, A (CSNSM, Orsay) et al.
The first low-energy Coulomb-excitation measurement of the radioactive, semi-magic, two proton-hole nucleus 206Hg, was performed at CERN's recently-commissioned HIE-ISOLDE facility. Two γ rays depopulating low-lying states in 206Hg were observed. [...]

New β-decaying state in 214Bi
/ IDS Collaboration
A new β-decaying state in 214Bi has been identified at the ISOLDE Decay Station at the CERN-ISOLDE facility. A preferred Iπ=(8−) assignment was suggested for this state based on the β-decay feeding pattern to levels in 214Po and shell-model calculations. [...]

Dealing with contaminants in Coulomb excitation of radioactive beams
/ Morrison, L (Surrey U.) ; Hadynska-Klek, K (Warsaw U. (main) ; Surrey U.) ; Podolyák, Zs (Surrey U.) ; Gaffney, L P (Liverpool U. ; CERN) ; Kaya, L (Cologne U.) ; Berry, T (Surrey U.) ; Boukhari, A (Orsay) ; Brunet, M (Surrey U.) ; Canavan, R (Surrey U. ; Teddington, Natl. Phys. Lab) ; Catherall, R (CERN) et al.
Data analysis of the Coulomb excitation experiment of the exotic 206Hg nucleus, recently performed at CERN’s HIE-ISOLDE facility, needs to account for the contribution to target excitation due to the strongly-present beam contaminant 130Xe. In this paper, the contamination subtraction procedure is presented..

Competition between Allowed and First-Forbidden β Decay: The Case of 208Hg→208Tl
/ Carroll, R J (Surrey U.) ; Podolyák, Zs (Surrey U. ; Darmstadt, GSI) ; Berry, T (Surrey U.) ; Grawe, H (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Alexander, T (Surrey U.) ; Andreyev, A N (York U., England ; JAEA, Ibaraki) ; Ansari, S (Cologne U.) ; Borge, M J G (CERN) ; Brunet, M (Surrey U.) ; Creswell, J R (Liverpool U.) et al.
The β decay of 208Hg into the one-proton hole, one neutron-particle 20881Tl127 nucleus was investigated at CERN-ISOLDE. Shell-model calculations describe well the level scheme deduced, validating the proton-neutron interactions used, with implications for the whole of the N>126, Z<82 quadrant of neutron-rich nuclei. Octupole states in 207Tl studied through β decay
/ Berry, T A (Surrey U.) ; Podolyák, Zs (Surrey U.) ; Carroll, R J (Surrey U.) ; Lică, R (CERN ; Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Brown, B A (Michigan State U.) ; Grawe, H (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Sotty, Ch (Bucharest, IFIN-HH ; Leuven U.) ; Timofeyuk, N K (Surrey U.) ; Alexander, T (Surrey U.) ; Andreyev, A N (York U., England) et al.
The β decay of 207Hg into the single-proton-hole nucleus 207Tl has been studied through γ-ray spectroscopy at the ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS) with the aim of identifying states resulting from coupling of the πs−11/2,πd−13/2, and πh−111/2 shell model orbitals to the collective octupole vibration. Twenty-two states were observed lying between 2.6 and 4.0 MeV, eleven of which were observed for the first time, and 78 new transitions were placed. [...]

Investigation of the Δn=0 selection rule in Gamow-Teller transitions: The β-decay of 207Hg
/ Berry, T A (Surrey U.) ; Podolyák, Zs (Surrey U.) ; Carroll, R J (Surrey U.) ; Lică, R (CERN ; Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; Grawe, H ; Timofeyuk, N K (Surrey U.) ; Alexander, T (Surrey U.) ; Andreyev, A N (York U., England) ; Ansari, S (Cologne U.) ; Borge, M J G (CERN ; Madrid, Inst. Estructura Materia) et al.
Gamow-Teller β decay is forbidden if the number of nodes in the radial wave functions of the initial and final states is different. This Δn=0 requirement plays a major role in the β decay of heavy neutron-rich nuclei, affecting the nucleosynthesis through the increased half-lives of nuclei on the astrophysical r-process pathway below both Z=50 (for N>82 ) and Z=82 (for N>126). The neutron-deficient cadmium isotopes have been measured by high-resolution laser spectroscopy at CERN-ISOLDE. The electromagnetic moments of Cd101 have been determined for the first time and the quadrupole-moment precision of Cd103 has been vastly improved. [...]

In-gas laser ionization and spectroscopy of actinium isotopes near the N=126 closed shell

The in-gas laser ionization and spectroscopy (IGLIS) technique was applied on the Ac212–215 isotopes, produced at the Leuven Isotope Separator On-Line (LISOL) facility by using the in-gas-cell and the in-gas-jet methods. The first application under on-line conditions of the in-gas-jet laser spectroscopy method showed a superior performance in terms of selectivity, spectral resolution, and efficiency in comparison with the in-gas-cell method. Resonant laser ionization and spectroscopy are widely used techniques at radioactive ion
beam facilities to produce pure beams of exotic nuclei and measure the shape, size, spin and
electromagnetic multipole moments of these nuclei. However, in such measurements it is
difficult to combine a high efficiency with a high spectral resolution. [...]

Time Differential Perturbed Angular Correlation of γ-rays (TDPAC) experiments were performed for the first time in the decay of 68m Cu (6−,721 keV,3.75 min) produced at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. Due to the short half-life of the source isotope, the measurements were carried out online. [...]
